Florence Family Update
May 18, 2018
Quick Notes
I cannot believe it is the last week of school! Monday is Mayfest and our end of year celebrations begin on Tuesday. Please join us in the auditorium for your grade level celebration (see dates and times below). Teachers will call each student to the stage and give them an envelope with their awards. Grade levels determine specific awards. For students who have not missed any days, they will be given a Perfect Attendance Certificate.
Thank you to all the parents who provided feedback to the recent feedback form and those sent out earlier. It is important for us to hear from you. In looking at all of our special events the mass majority of parents continue to enjoy our special days. Florence has a strong sense of community and tradition, and we want to continue those traditions. Our primary fundraising is Fun Run. Next year will be working with APEX to incorporate a character building fundraiser for the spring. In previous newsletters, I shared a flyer which listed the items purchased for our campus by PTA through the fundraisers. Currently every teacher has a minimum of 4 Chromebooks and most have 14. We were able to replace some that were no longer working. Every grade level received $1,000 to purchase books to supplement our writing program. We appreciate all of your support for our students and staff.
The mass majority of our parents love Florence Elementary. If you ever have a negative experience at Florence, please contact me in order to address issues or misconceptions promptly. Parents provided some great suggestions for us to address for next year: tutoring, STAAR Night for parents to give face-to-face information, continue to provide explanation of our special days, new to Florence gathering, community outreach, etc.....
When asking about the snacks for lunch 71.2% of our parents like the addition of snacks. Of those, the majority preferred 2-3 days. Next year, we will have the snack tray on Tuesdays and ice cream on Thursday.
Mayfest is Monday! We will start the day with a clap out for our previous Falcons who are now graduating high school. Students and parents will gather around the Maypole around 8:15-8:20 for the Maypole dance. We will then begin Mayfest which is our campus field day. Students will participate in various events throughout the day. Please note that lunches will not follow the normal schedule. You can either send a sack lunch with your student or purchase one in the cafeteria. You may want to pack extra clothes, sunscreen, and shoes since there are some water activities.
Parents are welcome to come watch the activities. We do ask that you sign in and receive a 'Visitors' sticker at the outside gate as you walk in for field day activities.
LOST AND FOUND: WE HAVE MANY - MANY JACKETS IN THE CAFETERIA. PLEASE COME CHECK THIS WEEK. THEY WILL BE GIVEN TO THE COMMUNITY STOREHOUSE THE LAST DAY OF SCHOOL.
