Principal's Message
October 27, 2017
Dear Willink Families,
What a wonderful week here at Willink. Thanks for your support on Red Ribbon Week. Students really embraced the various themes and are taking the message to heart. It is nice to see all the red keys around the building as well. The keys make explicit what we all know; one of the keys to a successful future is remaining drug and alcohol free. Also, we have reached the half-way point of our can drive. If you haven't done so, please consider sending some non-perishable goods in with your child. If everyone brought in at least one, we would easily eclipse our goal of 1,000 canned goods/non-perishable items. All items will then be donated to the Webster Food Cupboard. As you can imagine, the demand on the Webster Food Cupboard this time of year is high so anything you can do to help will be greatly appreciated.
Our CAREacter trait for October is courage, which fits very nicely with Red Ribbon Week. We honored 6 students this morning for "Making a Difference" at Willink by being courageous. Students were nominated by teachers who see them bringing this trait to life.
Our Halloween dance was an incredible event. Over 370 students attended, many with costumes. If you haven't see the pictures or video, check them out on our homepage or on our Twitter feed. As you will see, a grand time was had by all!
Speaking of Halloween, Tuesday is coming fast. As a reminder, students can come to school in a costume but all costumes must conform to our dress code. As I shared last week, this also means that your child can still be a Jedi or Storm Trooper, just without a lightsaber or a pirate, again without a sword. Also, masks and such are not permitted as we need to still see your child's face and they will need to see what they are doing in their classes and while walking the halls! Your support on this is greatly appreciated.
It is hard to believe that our 8th-grade students will be leaving in 10 days on our annual Washington, D.C. trip. They are eagerly anticipating this year's trip as evidenced by the excitement of our meeting this past Wednesday. If you have any questions related to medication, please contact Susan Immesoete directly at 670-1035. For all other questions, please contact the Green House office at 670-1040.
The marking period is rapidly coming to a close. Please take the opportunity to log into the portal and check your child's progress. Your child's teachers are available to help in many ways as is your child's counselor. Please contact them directly, via email, with any questions. Partnering together will ensure that your child will have the best chance of maximizing his or her potential! Also, please remember that we will not be mailing report cards home this quarter. You will receive an electronic communication when they are finalized. If you would like to receive a printed copy, please follow the directions in that communication.
Have a great weekend and we are looking forward to seeing how creative our students are on Tuesday!
