A Note from Mrs. Shostachuk 10/31/2021

Dear Central Road Families:

Our Fall Spirit Week was a huge success! We did not let the rain get us down! Both our students and staff had an amazing time together this week having a bit of extra fun while learning a great deal too. We wish everyone a safe and enjoyable Halloween weekend! Upon returning from it, we will be heading into the month of November which is hard to believe. Thank you for taking the time to read our weekly communication. We hope you enjoy your weekend while remaining healthy too. As always, please feel free to reach out with any questions.

Kindest Regards,

Joanna Shostachuk

What to Bring: Instrument, Sound Innovations Book 1, Folding music stand, a pencil, and all supplies needed for the school day. Please make sure your child’s name is on everything! Parents should make sure their student is wearing their self-certification document each morning when they arrive at school. Lanyards were sent home in supply bags. Please call the office if you do not have a lanyard for your child. Wearing the self-certification card indicates that the parent certifies their child is symptom-free.

Morning rehearsals enable us to play concerts. We will prepare concert music at morning rehearsals as a large group, so it is imperative that students come to morning rehearsals. Concert details have not been set yet. Thank you for your patience in another unusual year.

Veteran's Day is November 11th

We will be honoring Veteran's Day on Thursday, November 11th. Students and staff are encouraged to wear red, white and/or blue on this day. Though our recognition will be on a smaller scale this year, it will be no less special and meaningful for our school community. Classrooms will be writing letters to Veterans as a way to honor those who have and continue to serve our Country. If you have a Veteran in your family we could write to, please kindly take a moment to complete our feedback form. We too will share a pre-recorded Veteran's Day video to staff and students on November 11th. We plan to share our video with parents for viewing as well.

Book E-Fair

Hungry for a good book? Then come visit our Central Road Follett Online Book Fair! The online shop opens on Monday, November 1st and runs through the 12th. There are hundreds of books to choose from! Select your books from our online site, purchase books and have them delivered to you at school or to your home address. The money raised goes to purchasing more books for our school Library. Consider purchasing a gift card as a special surprise for the holidays. Take a look at this link for more information on our Follett School Book Fair. Happy reading everyone! CODE:4EG56

Wolfie Shop

Our students have been working very hard this trimester with being Respectful, Responsible, and Safe. On November 4th or 5th, students will have an opportunity to trade in their earned CBGs at our Wolfie Shop! We are excited to reward them for all their hard work this trimester. We also thank our parent volunteers for coming in to support our shopping!

Progress Reports for Students in Grades 1-6

Our first trimester will conclude on Friday, November 5th. Progress reports will be shared with parents on Friday, November 19th for students who are in grades 1-6. Thank you for taking the time to review them once issued in the coming weeks.

Parent-Teacher Conferences-Nov. 22 & 23

We hope all parents have had an opportunity to sign up for P/T conferences. Please contact your child's teacher if you still require an appointment date/time. We will be holding conferences in person at school with a virtual option if preferred/needed for parents/guardians. Our conferences will take place on Monday, November 22nd from 12:00-8:00 pm and Tuesday, November 23rd from 8:00-12:00 pm. Each conference will be about 20 minutes. Our teachers very much look forward to connecting with families on student progress and growth. We hope you find the time together productive and meaningful.

Teachers in general love this time of year. Central Road teachers and staff members take the prospect of beginning a new year to a whole new level. They prepare their classrooms, plan lessons, organize schedules, review student records, and think about all of the possibilities the year ahead holds. As much as we recognize their efforts and successes here at school, nothing means more to a teacher or staff member than a kind word from a student or his/her family. As we get the year underway, I invite you to take notice of the things you see your child's teacher do, hear your child's teacher say, or the things you hear your child gush with excitement about related to their teacher. We've included this simple form for you to submit should you feel so inclined to do so. Children in full day school spend more of their waking day with their teacher than they do with their parents. We thank you for entrusting your child with us! This is going to be a great school year.

Shield Testing Update

Shield testing continues to take place one time a week at Central Road. Please send all SHIELD Opt-Ins/Outs to at

Our district will begin a Test to Stay Program starting on October 25th. We will work through the steps together if/when the need arises at Central Road. Thank you for reading our district's communication regarding this optional program.

Students continue to sit 3 feet away from peers masked while learning indoors. Mask wearing outdoors continues to remain optional for students and staff. We have recently adjusted our indoor eating/seating arrangements as best as possible to ensure students are closer to 6 feet apart when eating.

Return to school with COVID-like symptoms (with no known exposure)

  • If a person has a COVID symptom and goes home, in order for them to come back, we have to have a negative PCR COVID test and fever-free for 24 hours.
  • If they have vomiting or diarhea, they need to be symptom free for 48 hours and have a negative PCR COVID test to return.
  • If they have any other COVID symptom, they need to have a negative test to return.
  • If they decide not to get a test after a symptom was identified, they can return after 10 days.

If you have any questions regarding your child's health, you may reach me at or at 847-963-5102. We will work together to ensure all guidelines are followed and clearly understood while keeping our students all safe and healthy!

Thank you for your patience.
