End of the first Quarter of School

Report cards are going to be posted today on SIS for Grades 4-8. Lower grades receive their first official grade reports at the end of the semester. Please know that upper grade parents can view grades in between report cards on SIS, as well as viewing class assignments and news. All teachers post information for their classes on SIS. It is great to check there on a regular basis.

The 5th and 6th grade basketball season has begun! Pilgrim's holiday service projects are in full swing and holiday music is filling the halls. This is a really special time of year at Pilgrim. Enjoy your weekend!

Service Projects

Plans are in the works for Holiday service projects. Chapel take-out for this week was an appeal for used wool sweaters that you do not want so that those sweaters can be turned into usable items for others. Students also received a list of items so that students can put together holiday food bags for the Friendship Center. We will also be announcing soon information about the toy drive for children who might not otherwise have a present this Christmas. All of these efforts are options for your family to do service. Please choose the project that speaks to you and your family. Please do not feel that every family must contribute to every project. Individual classrooms will continue to work on their own service projects. Funding for classroom projects come from Pilgrim Kids Care.

Sulzer Family Foundation Grant

For the 42nd Year, Pilgrim has received a grant from the Sulzer Family Foundation. This year’s award for $2500 is designated for new programming at Pilgrim. Many thanks are due to the Sulzer Family Foundation for their support of programs at Pilgrim!

Playlot

Pilgrim has also received a North Center Chamber of Commerce grant in the amount of $3000. Many thanks go to the Chamber for their continued support of Pilgrim. The Chamber’s grant is part of fundraising efforts for Phase 2 of the Pilgrim Playground Project.

The Pilgrim Playground Task Force meets Tuesday, November 17, at 8 p.m. in the Church Parlor. The topic is the renovation the play deck for the Early Childhood students. All voices are welcome. If you have ideas but cannot attend the meeting, please share them with Tricia Koning-Llewellyn, Chad Smith, Mindy Wieland, Jim Volkens, or me.

St Paul's

Pilgrim Grades 1-8 are visiting our partners at St. Paul’s on Dorchester on Wednesday, November 18. We will be worshipping together and engaging in some Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) activities together. This is a great opportunity for learning and fellowship. Please note that we will be eating lunch at St. Paul’s, so please have your child bring something to eat, especially if he/she has special dietary needs.

Holiday Concert

Pilgrim School’s Holiday Concert is scheduled for December 7 at 6:30 p.m. Please put this date on your December calendar, and come to enjoy the Upper Grade Chorus Classes under the direction of Rebecca Sorensen and the Pilgrim Band under the direction of Ouida Zaporta perform holiday selections right here at Pilgrim. Also, please put Sunday, December 13 on your calendar for kids caroling at the Irish Christmas Market. More details to come soon.

Marketing Team

The Pilgrim Marketing Team met on Wednesday, November 11. We are planning for the upcoming Open House for Tuesday, November 17, at 9:30 a.m. Please encourage friends and neighbors with school-age children to attend. We are also working on an advertisement in the January Chicago Parent Magazine schools edition. We encourage everyone to check out Pilgrim’s new website: www.pilgrimchicago.org. We would like feedback about the website. Our goal is to make the website meet the needs of current parents, as well as answer questions for prospective parents. If you would like to share some comments, please forward them to Halley Williams at office@pilgrimchicago.org or to Chris Comella at ccomella@pilgrimchicago.org.

SAVE THE DATE

Pilgrim's annual Trivia Night Fundraiser will be Saturday, January 30 in Maring Hall. This is an adult only event with food, beverages and lots of fun! Start brushing up on your trivia and thinking about who you want on your team of up to 8 people. There is a cash grand prize and more importantly, bragging rights! Look for sign-up information soon.

Yearbook

Pilgrim needs someone to moderate the Yearbook! If you would be willing to work with a group of upper grade students to gather ideas and photos to put together the 2015-2016 yearbooks, please let me know. The last two years, yearbook has used the Shutterfly website to put articles together and print the books. The moderator meets with the students on a regular basis until spring and then coordinates the printing of the yearbook. This is a wonderful way to work with a great group of students.

Gift Cards and Magazine Drive

In anticipation of the holidays we have added some new gift cards to our list: Baker's Square $25, American Express $50, $100 and $250 (already activated), Hotels.com $25, Nordstrom $25 and $100 and Spa Week $25. Unfortunately we no longer carry KFC, Red Box or Eddie Bauer. We will be selling Sunday after the 2nd service and Monday and Friday until 10 am in the school office. You may also drop off or send in an order with your child to the school office , which will be held for pickup or sent home with your child if a waiver has been submitted. You will receive an email when it is ready or has been sent. Don't forget to continue using smileamazon.com as we earn an additional 1/2 percent on your order. Please contact Anne Barsano cbarsano@aol.com or 312-972-9040 with any questions.

Tallies are in for the Magazine Drive and so far we have earned $964.80 for Pilgrim. This amount will grow as people continue to place orders throughout the year! Online you may order gifts, books and other items such as wrapping paper and cards. Pilgrim's account is 2633014. Thanks again everyone!
