Habits of Mind

One worthy initiative that we will be working on this school year is the development and recognition of dispositions that all humans can do in order to behave intelligently when confronted with problems for which the answers are not immediately known. These,

"Habits of Mind", can be called upon to help students think through a problem. They include such things as persisting, managing impulsivity, thinking flexibly as well as a long list of very valuable behaviors that can be applied from kindergarten through adulthood. As the year progresses, we will be visiting these Habits of Mind, developing activities around them, recognizing them in students and sharing information in future newsletters. UKE group goes to the mainland

Our budding Ukulele strummers, under the watchful eye of Ms. Megan Hennessy, took an off-island adventure to see ukulele wizard Jake Shimabukuro perform. They were lucky enough to meet him after the concert.

Good Eats

Do Vegetable Frittata, tomatoes with fresh mozzarella or the fresh pears with cinnamon and goat cheese sound good to you? They do to us, as well!! We have only our chef Glen Pence to thank. Our little secret here at school is that we are fortunate to have a real chef whipping up our daily fare. This fall, Glen had a great idea to solicit donations from area businesses who were closing for the summer for perishable food items that may have gone to waste over the winter months. We would like to thank, Finn's, The Boat Basin and the National Hotel for the fine donations.

Pickleball Returns

Once again the annual Pickle Ball Tournament organized by Mr. T was a big hit. Millie Starr and Richie Conant were the big winners!

Thanks, Hank and Welcome, Frank!

Mr. Hank Woodward, our ever so patient tech trouble shooter, was honored for his 8 years of service at our school this week. We wish him well as he and his family make a new life in South Carolina. Our new Tech support staff member is Frank Tito. He joined us in August and will spend part of each week at the school supporting all our technology needs. Welcome Frank!

Halloween Fun!!

The Student Council, under the direction of Mr. Prior, organized a Halloween party on Thursday night. While on Halloween morning, the high school teachers showed their spirit while greeting our students at the door in their Halloween costumes.
