Habits of Mind
One worthy initiative that we will be working on this school year is the development and recognition of dispositions that all humans can do in order to behave intelligently when confronted with problems for which the answers are not immediately known. These,
"Habits of Mind", can be called upon to help students think through a problem. They include such things as persisting, managing impulsivity, thinking flexibly as well as a long list of very valuable behaviors that can be applied from kindergarten through adulthood. As the year progresses, we will be visiting these Habits of Mind, developing activities around them, recognizing them in students and sharing information in future newsletters. Bully Prevention Week!
Summer Riker and the PBIS team organized two events last week to recognize October as Bully Prevention Month. They organized Chalk IT Up, where students were encouraged to draw positive graffiti with sidewalk chalk. Also they invited a bully prevention storyteller, Mark Levitt to the school. He entertained and sent positive messages regarding pro-social behavior to students throughout the school.
