crusaders in (and out of) the classroom
Ms. Whalen’s 8th grade students started learning about speed and kinetic energy this week. It’s always a fun day in science when you get to use carts and tracks!
Students in STEM Inquiry Lab are using their knowledge of chromatography to separate and identify the food dyes in M&M and Skittles candies. This class is open to all 9th and 10th graders and is part of the Biotechnology and Environmental & Agricultural Sciences pathways.
Last Thursday we celebrated those High School students who earned the rank of High Honors and Honors for Terms 1 and 2. We celebrated with a breakfast prepared by our amazing cafeteria staff! Congratulations!
THANK YOU LADIES!!
Last week we celebrated Grades 6 - 8 students who received High Honors and Honors term 2. They celebrated with cupcakes made by our very talented cafeteria staff and ice cream!
Middle School Honor Roll Celebration!
Ms. Whalen’s Principles of Ecology students completed a waste survey this week! Students saved their trash/recycling over the course of 24 hours and brought it to school for data collection and analysis. Students found that food waste and plastic made up the majority of their waste’s overall mass. Luckily our school has many recycling programs in place to prevent certain wastes from going to a landfill!
On Tuesday , March 15, 2022 Mr Tresca’s Justice in Society Class participated in a K9 Demonstration with the Plymouth County Sheriffs Department. 11th and 12th grade students learned about training, narcotic detections and people apprehensions.
The Mock Trial season comes to a close this Friday, March 18th, with the state championship happening online for the second year in a row. Next year we are hoping to be back in court!
This year's team won the preliminary rounds 3 - 0 and went on to the Sweet Sixteen before being eliminated. The team will attend the championship virtually to see, for the first time (due to COVID) what it takes to get to that level. Go Carver!
Here's the team at the School Committee this past Monday being recognized for their achievement.

COMMUNITY SERVICE Reminders and opportunities
Sophomores & families,
I'm happy to let you know that Sophomores are NOW ELIGIBLE to earn hours towards their 25 hr graduation requirement. (Including with activities like Care Packages for Troops)
The History Department-with our core mission of promoting active and responsible citizenship- facilitates this project to help students deepen their appreciation for service while making a positive difference in their community.
See the project Guidelines for details, and see the Modifications--in effect through the pandemic-for expanded options for earning and documenting hours.
To document hours, students use this form which can be found in the history hallway or in the guidelines. Students obtain signatures from a “Site Supervisor:” -to verify the service was performed-and their History “Teacher” (or designated staff if not taking history) to confirm the activity is eligible and to have progress tracked.
I’ll occasionally email new opportunities that will also post in Carver Chronicles. Sophomore history teachers will review the project with 1st semester students by the end of term 2, and with 2nd semester students early in term 3.
Please let me, your student's History teacher, or designated staff know if you have any questions.
Best,
Brian Lamoureux
History Department Chair

Civic Engagement: Virtual Programs
Background…One way students can earn towards their 25 hour community service graduation requirement is through civic engagement, or “individual or collective action that addresses an issue of public concern.” This would include attending outreach programs on issues of public concern (ex: substance abuse and mental health) Students may not realize they can earn hours this way and when virtual, it’s challenging to document. So we've created a Virtual Program Reflection Sheet (next page) to encourage students’ participation, to help them reflect on their learning, and to facilitate documentation.
Examples of Virtual Public Outreach programs…
Tues, March 15, 2022 6:30-8:00pm: Understanding Teen Depression

Assistance for lost/stray animals in Carver
DId you know?
Carver lost its actual animal shelter building many years ago.
We were fortunate that Lakeville Animal Shelter stepped in and offered to let us be part of their collaborative shelter.
If an animal is found in Carver, we have a holding area behind the old police station. The animal does not stay there very long. (Less than 24 hours) in hopes it will be reunited with owners.
If not it is brought to the Lakeville facility where it will be put on hold for 7 days. before it can be legally put up for adoption.
It is very admirable of the Carver students to be supportive of any shelter.
I know that many folks in town do not realize this is where our strays and lost dogs/animals go.
The shelter is located Montgomery St Lakeville Ma
(just off route 18 & 105.)
508-947-3891
and it run an operated by Dave Frates, Jennifer Nash and a few others
Thank you to all the Carver students and families for all their kind efforts
