Forms of Bullying
Physical bullying is the most obvious to see. It includes pushing, bumping, locker shutting, and other moves that may be played as 'accidental' but are actually meant to bother the target.
Verbal bullying is another form harmful behavior. Name calling, rumor starting or sharing, demeaning jokes, and teasing can be considered bullying if they are repeated. A common problem at SMS is teasing or 'messing with.' I was just messing with him/her is a classic sign of bullying.
Sexual bullying is verbal or physical bullying that includes unwanted comments about a target's body and/or unwanted touching. This form of bullying also includes comments about gender identity, sexual orientation, and sharing of personal information. This can be especially hurtful if the person who bullies is a former friend/boyfriend/girlfriend.
Emotional bullying is often the most subtle form of bullying. This form of bullying is when, "whether it’s done in-person or online, could be excluding someone from a group or purposely leaving them out of activities, threatening to hurt or harm someone, telling lies in order to hurt another person’s reputation, or humiliating someone publicly." Emotional bullying is a calculated way to make a target question his/her self-worth.
All forms of bullying are damaging to the targets, the witnesses, and the person who bullies. Which forms do you think are most prevalent at SMS? We'll look at responses to bullying in our next Scoop.
A Letter from Mr. Bell!
Here are some excerpts!
I'm currently writing this letter to you on fire guard. I'm currently in the Red Phase of my training which is the most mentally part of training, however, my morale is high as is the morale of my platoon. I'm doing my best to make SMS, SCSD2, and Scottsburg proud. I'm missing you all and wishing nothing but the best for you guys.
I'm currently Bay Boss, it's like being the leader of my platoon. I feel honored to lead them. My platoon is from all walks of life including people from all over the US, six from Puerto Rico, three from Africa, and one from Jamaica. Despite these differences, we are tasked to work as a team to accomplish the mission.
If you want to keep track of my company's progress, you can find us on Facebook on Alpha Company 1-34. I'm roster #10 if that helps. Please do not send me something other than letters. I, as well as the other members of my platoon, get in trouble if we receive other items such as Ms. Sutton's awesome cookies.
I'll write when I can. I love and miss you all.
Sincerely,
Alex Bell

If you'd like to send some encouragement or thanks or some details about SMS life, drop off your letter to Mrs. Walsh in the office. Please do not put it in an envelope, just hand us your signed letter (or single page art work) and we'll combine them for a weekly mailing. Mr. Bell is serving us. Let's help him! Get writing!
