SCIS PRINCIPAL MESSAGE 2/1/24
February 1, 2024
A NOTE FROM MRS. RAWLINS
Dear Sloan Creek Families,
We made it to February and 💖LOVE💖 is in the air! The Sloan Creek Student Council is selling Valentine Grams with the help of PTO Volunteers. Valentine Grams are $1 and students are welcome to buy for friends and/or teachers!
Another way students are showing love is by sharing little figurines. I have a sweet collection of ducks, frogs, a pig, and a rare axolotl! Thank you for having FUN with this silly trend while still holding students accountable and not allowing the ducks to become a distraction to their learning.
Next week is School Counselor Appreciation Week! We can't wait to spotlight and honor our School Counselor, Ms. Glenda Martin. Please join us in showing love and appreciation for all she does for the students, staff and community.
There is no school for students tomorrow, Friday, February 2. Enjoy the long weekend!
As always, please reach out with any concerns or celebrations. We love hearing from you!
Sloan Creek PROUD,
❤️🐆 Megan Rawlins

FINE ARTS REGISTRATION FOR RISING 6TH GRADERS - DUE FEB. 9
Fine Arts Registration for Rising 6th Graders
DUE FEB. 9TH
Fifth graders have an exciting choice to make for their sixth grade fine arts elective. They may choose between art, band, choir, or orchestra. The counselors have met with each PE class and discussed what factors to consider when making this important decision and what factors should not be part of the decision.
Things NOT to factor into your decision when making your Fine Arts choice:
1) Do not consider which elective friends are enrolling in, because there is no guarantee they will be together.
2) Do not consider experience level when picking a fine art class. All classes are beginner level and no experience is required.
3) Do not consider homework or practice time be a deterrent as all fine arts classes have some outside time required.
4) We do not want cost to be a deterrent. If there is a concern please contact one of the fine arts teachers or counselors.
5) Do not consider what instrument your parents or your siblings played.
Things TO consider when making your Fine Arts choice:
1) This is a year-long commitment. We will not change fine arts electives during the school year.
2) Please research each elective by reading over the information provided on The website and pick the one for which they have the most passion. The information can be found by going to the Lovejoy ISD website > Campuses > Sloan Creek > Parents > Academic Information > 2024-2025 Fine Arts Registration Information.
Once students and parents have explored all options and are ready to commit to a choice, it is time to complete one and only one of the forms. We need every 5th Grade student to complete one Google Form found on the website, in the Grade 5 Google Classroom, or at the following links by February 9th:
Forms will be live on February 1st -
Band, Choir, Orchestra Registration Form - Deadline February 9th
Visual Art Registration Form - Deadline February 9th
Required - Visual Art Hands on Portion - Deadline February 9th
Please remember that this elective will meet for one period every day. This is a year long commitment, so please make sure your child is ready and they know the expectations for each choice. If you have any questions or concerns, please let us know. Thanks!!

SPOTLIGHT: THANK YOU, GENEROUS PARENTS!
SPOTLIGHT: REVA HIRPARA
We are pleased to spotlight one of our fifth graders, Reva Hirpara. Reva recently published her first book on Amazon,”If elephants could fly…” a collection of poems, jingles, and rhymes.
Reva is a talented writer. She excels not only through her poetry writing ideas, but also through her study-work. Reva started writing short jingles and poems in second grade as part of a class assignment. She was encouraged by her teachers and decided to pursue writing poetry. Since then, she has gifted personalized poems to close friends and family, and wrote poems for special occasions. This book is a collection of her 25 best poems so far. Her poems are wacky and witty, and usually end with a twist that delights the reader. They were inspired by her life, her experiences, her imagination and Theo, her pet cat.
Reva is still deciding what she wants to be when she grows up, but thinks she will be a pretty good ethicist or a lawyer. When not writing books and attending school full time, Reva can be found practicing her cello, reading stories and playing with Theo.
We are very proud of her. We can’t wait for more poems from our very own Reva Hirpara.

9th Annual LJVA Portrait Show
Lovejoy Visual Arts would like to invite you to the 9th Annual Portrait Show; February 6th from 5-7pm. This collection of work is an investigation of the concepts of identity and self through the eyes and hands of students of all ages and stages of exploration in LJVA. Whether dealing with honest representation or the languages of abstraction and symbolism, the work chosen for this exhibition speaks to the ever-evolving idea of how we see ourselves and the world around us. This carefully selected exhibition is a celebration of the diversity and personal experience that is found within our student body and Lovejoy community. Please join us to celebrate these selected artists at the Lovejoy High School Gallery opening, Tuesday, February 6th from 5-7pm. If you are unable to attend the night of the opening, the exhibition will be up for viewing until February 13th during school hours.
