Team Meadow Update
Staff Update - March 1, 2020
Team Meadow,
I hope everyone is enjoying this beautiful weekend!
A heartfelt thanks to those of you that volunteered at Saturday's highly attended Boone Meadow Blast. (Amanda, Katie, Becky, Kathy, Kristi, & Amy. Sorry if I missed anyone else.) Hundreds of families showed up to participate at this "friend-raising" event. Although we struggled to have enough volunteers to pull it off, in the end it turned out just fine. We sold out of food and ran out of prizes, but that's part of the excitement with a growing community. A good time was had, and a tremendous thank you goes out to Jackie Lewis (Boone Meadow Blast Chair) and Maritza Gerde (PTO President) for another successful event.
Preliminary registration for Kindy Round up is strong. In less that 48 hrs of registration opening, we were sitting a little under 90 kindergarteners. I didn't have an opportunity to check on Friday, but I anticipate that we will be north of 100 fairly soon. It sure doesn't look like we're getting any smaller.
Over the past couple of weeks, I've been securing quotes and working on approvals & funding to get a traverse/climbing wall for our gymnasium. PTO Board has approved funding for the project, and it is going in front of the ZCS school board as a consent agenda item on Monday, March 9th. I will keep you posted if it gets approved. If all goes well, our goal is to get it installed in early May. In addition, additional PTO team funds will be coming your way for spring celebrations and projects. More info to come.
A couple items to note for this week include:
- Kim and I will be out of the building on Monday afternoon (12-2) for the lit coaches meeting.
- Following dismissal on Monday, our Blue Ribbon application team will be meeting in the front office conference room. (2:30-3:30)Tu
- On Tuesday Morning - Lauren and I will be out for our monthly district admin meeting.
- PTO Meeting is on Wednesday evening this week. 7:00 in the cafe
Construction/Transitions - We are getting closer as space will continue to tighten over the next few weeks as we prepare for construction to begin in the preschool/BAC wing. Here's an update on where we are.
- Preschool - Kara has relocated all items to the new STEM room (upstairs) and preschool has started their transition to their new space. They will be working on this for a couple of weeks before being fully relocated by March 16th.
- BAC/Bridge/Early Start Spanish - They are still holding tight in their space until facilities is able to move cabinetry to the cafe.
Once again, I am grateful for each of you. Thanks for all you do, and especially for how you do it.
Tom
March by Emily Dickinson
We like March, his shoes are purple,
He is new and high;
Makes he mud for dog and peddler,
Makes he forest dry;
Knows the adder’s tongue his coming,
And begets her spot.
Stands the sun so close and mighty
That our minds are hot.
News is he of all the others;
Bold it were to die
With the blue-birds buccaneering
On his British sky
NEA's Read Across America Has Evolved!
Our student populations are ever-changing and evolving and every year there are new children’s books that reflect that diversity. That’s why NEA's Read Across America is rebranding with a new logo to appeal to students of all ages and backgrounds and a continued mission of “Celebrating a Nation of Diverse Readers.”
Of course, children still love Dr. Seuss, and his birthday on March 2, also Read Across America Day is still an ideal time for a school-wide reading event but with the broadened scope of NEA’s Read Across America, there are activities, resources, and ideas to keep students reading ALL YEAR LONG!
