Hello Sachems! Welcome Back!
I hope all of you had a wonderful weekend! The past week has been very exciting at MHS. Our clubs and organizations are off to a great start and the energy of the school is great. Additionally, our fall sports teams….you are doing an awesome job of representing the Black and Orange. This week is an important week for our school as we can begin using the new turf field and track for PE Classes and after school practices. Our new campus is really beginning to take shape! We have a very exciting week ahead!! Here are a few items for this week:
A special note of thanks and appreciation...
- Thank you to Shannon Hurley for representing our school at the MASC President’s Dinner on Thursday night.
- Congratulations to Natalia Parkinson for representing MHS at her first School Committee Meeting last week. Thank you for representing the voice of students on this very important committee.
- Thank you to the MHS Key Club for the wonderful teacher appreciation gifts left in the mailboxes. It was an awesome treat!
- Thank you to the Student Council for your work on Saturday at the Alumni Bash sponsored by the Sachem Pride Alumni Foundation. Your decorations and work with greeting the many alumni was awesome. Thank you!
Character Strong - Advisory Lesson #3 - Personality Vs. Character
Our next Advisory for Character Strong will take place on Monday, September 30, 2019. As we begin our new month with Character Strong, our focus for the month of October is PATIENCE. I am so proud of your engagement with Character Strong. Be sure to try out the many Character Dares happening this week!
Quarter I Progress Reports and Parent-Teacher Conferences - October
- Appointment Sheets for Parent-Teacher Conferences will be distributed to all students on Monday, September 30, 2019. Students, be sure to make your appointments early with your teachers!
- Progress Reports for Quarter I will be issued to all students on Tuesday, October 8, 2019 during a special advisory on at 1:40pm.
- Parent-Teacher Conferences will take place on Wednesday, October 9, 2019 from 5:30 – 8:00pm and Thursday, October 10, 2019 from 4:00 – 6:00pm.
Professional Development Day - Mark Your Calendars - Friday, October 11, 2019
Please know that on Friday, October 11, 2019 is a half-day for professional development for the school district. Dismissal for the high school is 11:30am.
Bring Your Voice to MHS - Join School Council
If you are interested in helping shape our school, then consider being a student representative to the MHS School Council. Please see me this week if you are interested. Our first meeting will take place on Tuesday, October 1, 2019. This committee is open to any student in Grades 9 - 12. Thank you for your consideration.
Class of 2024 Visit to MHS - Friday, October 18, 2019
The Class of 2024 will be visiting MHS on Friday, October 18th to help our 8th graders make the best choice about their high school experience. We want that choice to be Middleborough High School. Let’s prepare to roll out the welcome mat to our future Sachems! A special thanks to the many student leaders who will serve as tour guides for the morning. We could not make this happen without you!
Oak Point Yard Sale - Saturday, October 5, 2019
The residents of Oak Point will be hosting their annual Yard Sale on Saturday, October 5, 2019. This yard sale is held to raise money for scholarships that will be awarded directly to MHS students! Attention all juniors and seniors…please consider going to the Oak Point Yard Sale to help with the set-up or clean-up and to volunteer an hour to two to this wonderful cause. The event will take place from 8:00am – 2:00pm. Oak Point is looking for help set-up and break-down.
Senior Portraits Opportunity - Lifetouch Photography - Wednesday, October 9
Attention all Seniors! If you have not had your senior portraits done for the yearbook now here is your chance. Our school photographer, Lifetouch Photography will be at MHS on Wednesday, October 9, 2019 beginning at 2:00pm. Please see Mrs. Holmgren in the main office to arrange for your appointment.
Middleborough High School Pop Up Library - Tuesday, October 1, 2019
Attention all students! The first Pop-Up Library of the year will be held on Tuesday, October 1, 2019 during all four lunches. We welcome the Middleborough Public Library to our school to share the many resources and programs that the library offers. Also, raffles are happening as well. You do not want to miss this!
Student Council Lock-In - Saturday, October 5 - Sunday, October 6, 2019
The annual Student Council Lock-In will take place on Saturday, October 5 and Sunday, October 6 (8pm – 7am) for all members of the MHS Student Council. Permissions slips are available from the main office this week. You do not want to miss out on this annual event!! Please see Mr. Branagan, Mr. Siciliano or Shannon Hurley with any questions.
Class of 2020 – YEARBOOK INFORMATION AND SENIOR PICTURES
- Seniors, please make sure you are checking your email for the information regarding senior pictures and senior photos. Everything will be done electronically, including the senior favorites and the senior superlatives.
- The deadline for submitting your senior portrait and your baby picture is October 25, 2019.
- Yearbooks will be available for online orders shortly, so please look out for a flyer from Jostens, which will be mailed home soon. This will contain online ordering information, in addition to the tiered pricing. The earlier your order your yearbook, the less expensive it will be.

Homecoming 2019 - Mark Your Calendar
Homecoming 2019 will be here before you know it! Mark your calendars for the Week of October 13 – 19, 2019 as Homecoming Week. The annual Homecoming Dance will be held at MHS on Saturday, October 19, 2019 from 7:00 – 10:00pm in the MHS Gym. Watch for ticket sale information.

Special Education Parent Advisory Council - Upcoming Events
- The Special Education Parent Advisory Council (SEPAC) is hosting their next meeting on Monday, September 30, 2019 at 6:00pm at the MECC. A Support Group will follow the meeting at 7:00pm.
- October is Fire Safety Month and SEPAC will be collaborating with the Middleborough Fire Department for an open house at the Fire Station. The event will begin at 11:00am for sensory sensitive children, with the greater event being held from 12:00 – 3:00pm. The event will be held on Sunday, October 6, 2019
