GREAT First Week Back!
Happy Sunday! What a great first week we had at BES. Your kids are amazing and we have so enjoyed having them back in BES! Pick-up got better and better each day - THANK YOU for your patience! I've included the drop-off/pick-up instructions at the very bottom of this newsletter for reference.
Here are a few reminders that we've noticed this week -
1. If your student eats breakfast, they need to be here by 7:40am. We had many students tardy to class by 10 minutes or more due to them needing to eat once they arrived at school. We begin in the gym at 7:55 with birthday announcements and the Pledge of Allegiance.
2. 5th grade parents - park in the lot across from the main entrance so you do not have to wait in line! We will then bring the kids to you and you can exit to Metcalf!
3. Please make sure we can see your name tag hanging from the visor. Often I cannot see your face with the windshield glare!
4. Thank you for sending your kids in tennis shoes!!
5. At lunch, please make sure your child can open their food items so they don't have to wait for us to get to them. Every now and then there's a tough one, but we like the kids to be as independent as possible!
SAVE THE DATE!!! We are rescheduling our GLOW BASH for September 17th. Mark it on your calendars - it is like the Walk-a-Thon but a family event in the evening. More to come!!! Also, we will have our Parent Information Night on September 21st (see graphic below). Hope to see you there!
Have a great week!

Pick-Up and Drop-Off Information
Drop-off and pick-up procedures can be tricky. Please read these directions and feel free to stop by at Back-to-School Night and ask any questions for clarification. It is important that students and families follow our procedures, not only for safety, but so that we can keep track of students at all times. Please be patient and always aware of surroundings during these times. A few minutes is not worth an accident. If you are needing to get to another school, there is plenty of time and the schools work together to ensure students are safe until picked up. Drop-Off: Drop-off of all students will still take place along the east side of BES. Students may exit their vehicle along the front sidewalks, from the BES front door all the way to the playground. Once your child has exited, please check for traffic and pull out to the left to exit the lot. You do not need to wait in the line. We have adults out there to make sure kids get into school safely! At the corner of the drop-off line, on the SE corner, be sure that both lines of traffic come to a stop as students may be crossing at that corner. You may then exit to Metcalf. Pick-Up: All 3rd and 4th grade students will exit the south doors. We encourage you to not park and walk up to meet your child. If you do, we ask that you model safe pedestrian practices and cross at a crosswalk. Do not walk with your children in between vehicles. Vehicles need to line up at the very front of the drive-thru lane at the SW corner of BES. Please pull up to the vehicle in front of you and do not leave spaces. All walkers will use the crosswalk. This line will wrap around to the east side of the building. When your child is safely in your vehicle, please check for traffic and then pull around the line to exit the lot. You do not need to wait in line. You may then exit to Metcalf. All 5th grade students and walkers/bike riders will exit the front doors of BES. 5th grade vehicles are asked to pull into the lot east of BES. Students will be brought over to you. You may then exit at the southeast end of the lot, near the soccer fields. Walkers/Bike Riders: Due to traffic and safety concerns, all walkers or bike riders are encouraged to only cross at the marked crosswalks that have crossing guards. This is at the corner of 5th and Metcalf, at the west end exit of the BES lot and 5th Street or at the south end of the BES parking lot. Please walk the route with your students prior to the first day of school so that they understand the safest route to take each day. We will have many adults assisting in the first few weeks of school. We are confident that these procedures will work effectively with some time, practice and patience! If you have any questions, please contact the BES office at (913) 837-1900.
