#2 STAR Math and STAR Reading Updates
Attention all Grade 1 through Grade 5 Elementary teachers and Grade 6 through High School Math and English teachers! Please note the upgrade information concerning STAR Math and Reading.
- STAR is our division diagnostic screener which we are required to have in place according to the VDOE Standards of Quality (SOQ's).
- New: The Renaissance platform has been updated so please log in prior to testing to get used to the new look, make sure that all your courses and students are in the system, and to add accommodations for audio and extended time before your students take the test.
- New: 20,000 new assessment items have been added.
- STAR Math and Reading are given in 1st grade through high school. (GMHS English 9-EOC and all Math SOL Tested Courses)
- New: Closing the Gaps. The Screener is given to ALL students in September. If a student scores at a 70% or higher (This score correlates to the SOL Pass Rate) they do not have to sit for the STAR Math and/or Reading test for the remainder of the year. Students who score at a 69% or below are expected to be reassessed in January and then again in May in order for the MTSS teams to monitor their progress towards mastery. Intervention teachers may be asked to use STAR as a progress monitoring data point more often in order to obtain a trend line for growth.
- If you have a student with a screen asking for a monitor password it s (admin). This will allow them to continue the test.
- There will no change to usernames and passwords for students and teachers except for new teachers who will use 1234 as the initial password. Once logged in for the first time, you will need to click on the dropdown arrow next to your name on the top bar and choose Edit Profile.
(Dear New Teachers, please work with your mentor if you need to give this assessment. It really is not complicated and only takes 15-30 minutes depending on the student)
Do you need to know how to login, look up student passwords, add audio and extended time accommodations for IEP's, 504's or ELs?
