Parent Education:
School and Illness: Should your child stay home?
This is the time of the year when children get ill. Handwashing is the best way to protect ourselves from illnesses. In the classroom, we teach children about handwashing through songs and storytelling.
Young children learn through their 5 senses because germs can’t be seen, felt, tasted, or heard, making them understand through play is a great idea to teach the importance of proper washing. A book and video I recommend are “Germs are not for sharing.”
YouTube.

*Please make sure your child stays home if they are not feeling well. The following guidelines will help you decide whether your child is too ill to go to school.
Seems very tired and needs bed rest (this is common with flu symptoms).
Has fever, vomiting or diarrhea
Has distracting pain from an earache, headache or a sore throat.
Breaks out in a rash; not all rashes require that a child stays home from school. Check with your child’s doctor.
Keep your child home until his or her fever, vomiting or diarrhea has been gone for 24 hours
For more information, you can check in the Parent Handbook on page 9.
Connecting Home and School:
We will be learning and listening to stories about the stars and planets found in our solar system. This month go night sky gazing with your child you can do it by looking out your windows or you can go outside.
And ask the following question:
What do you see?
Where is the moon? What color is it? What shape is it ?
What do you think the moon is made of?
? Is it a lot or a little? Are they big or small?
How many start do you see? What color are the stars?
What do you think the stars are made of?
After night sky gazing have your child draw a picture of the night sky and everything they saw.
