Tisch's Tidbits
NWEA
We are finishing up NWEA testing. Between the system being a bit finicky to start and a 2 hour delay, the kids have been very flexible. We began testing and then finished the math portion after lunch on Wednesday. Today we are wrapping up any assessments that are incomplete. The kids have been very patient and flexible. I'm so proud of them. :)
Postcards
Our class is participating in a postcard exchange with classes in other states. We have already received a few from other states! It's so exciting to get real mail! If you are out and about and see postcards affiliated with Indiana, we would love it if you could purchase a few for the exchange. We would like to complete our part of the exchange by the end of the month. Thanks in advance for your help!
Valentine's Day
We look forward to celebrating Valentine's Day with our students at their classroom parties on Thursday, February 14th. This is a wonderful opportunity for us to emphasize the lifeskill of friendship with all of our students. As you are out shopping for Valentines, please select cards and/or trinkets that are inedible. This could include pencils, erasers, stickers, etc. Candy will not be distributed. Thank you for ensuring that all students can have a safe and fun celebration.
Union Elementary Family Wellness Night
· Thursday, Feb. 7th from 6:00 - 7:30
· This year’s focus is the Brain + Body Connection & Exercise keeps your brain healthy.
"The real reason we feel so good when we get our blood pumping is that it makes the brain function at its best" says John Ratey author of Spark: The Revolutionary New Science of Exercise and the Brain. "The point of exercise is to build and condition the brain."
The night will include activities that focus on the Brain + Body connection, as well as our Social, Physical, Intellectual, Nutritional and Emotional Health. Some of the activities include an obstacle course, making a stress ball (Amygadala), Imagination playground(Pre-frontal Cortex), Tour of the cafeteria and creating a balanced snack (Cerebrum), Minds in Motion, Drum Fit, Brain games and more. We would love for your family to join us for a night of family fun!
Recess
As a reminder, if the windchill is between 10-20 degrees, it varies if we go outside for recess. If there is snow on the ground, our school policy is that snow pants and snow boots are required. Your child is more than welcome to put these items in a bag and leave them in their locker if it makes your life easier. I don't know about you, but frantically trying to find everyone's stuff in the morning, bags that were large enough to fit all of the items and labeling the items stresses me out. :)

Meet Miss Tamburini!
Hello families! My name is Jordan Tamburini, and I will be your child’s student teacher this spring semester starting today and ending on May 8. I am a senior at Indiana University majoring in elementary education with a reading license addition. Some of you might recognize my name because I have worked at Z-Camp for six summers! I also went to Zionsville Community Schools, and I am thrilled to have the opportunity to work alongside Mrs. Tisch (who was my second grade teacher at Stonegate:)). I cannot wait to get to know your kiddo. I know that we will do a lot of learning together! Here is a photo of my new kitten, Sushi, and me.
