Dear Alamos Families,

I do hope you enjoyed our video showcasing our wonderful Social-Emotional Learning Team (SELT). It has always been my belief that students do not care what you know until they know that you care. That is why it is so important to cultivate a school community that is relationship-rich and focused not only on academic achievement but also on the success of our students’ social, emotional and behavioral wellbeing. Our AES SELT is a wonderful resource that is available to any student that may need some support. If you should have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact our school office and we will put you in touch with an SEL Team member.

The weather is warming, the colors are changing, the bees are buzzing and it certainly seems as if spring may finally be on its way! Speaking of spring…Spring Vacation begins March 23 and we will welcome our students back to school on Monday, April 6th. The next few months are quite busy at AES and I want to spotlight a few important events that are fast approaching.

With a Hoot and a Holler, and the Fanfare Unfurled…Come See How Happy Teachers Change the World! On March 18th at 6 pm, our students and staff invite you to OUR HOUSE! Our evening will start in the MPR with a brief Principal Welcome, followed by a wonderful video that highlights our spectacular PTO sponsored events…be on the lookout for snapshots of YOUR children! Classroom visits will begin at 6:20 p.m. and we will conclude with our Spring Basket Raffle at 7:00 p.m.

As we begin wrapping up this school year, we are already planning for the next! Specifically, we will soon be hard at work placing students in classrooms for the 2020-2021 school year. We want you to know that the learning environment of each student is of primary concern to us, as is your child’s success. To provide each student with the best learning environment possible is no easy task! Let me share the process with you:

When we assemble classes, we consider the following criteria:

 Heterogeneous Groups

 Student Achievement Levels

 Gender Ratios

 Special Needs Students

 Social/emotional/behavioral needs

 Separating students who have difficulties working together

 Matching student learning styles with the teacher’s instructional style

 Level of student independence

 Student work and study habits

As an administrator, I visit classrooms daily. I observe teachers and students using many

strategies to accomplish the tasks of teaching and learning together. I know the instructional skills of our teachers and I am confident in their abilities. I could not, in all honesty, tell you who the very best teacher on the faculty is because there is no one teacher who is best at everything. In talking about the “best teacher” one must specify “best in what area?” Teaching is made up of hundreds of skills and no one person is best at all of them. The knowledge I gain in these classroom observations and the relationship I have with your child helps me in selecting the best possible “fit” for both student and teacher.

You can see that this is an involved process. To complicate matters further is the changes

in grade level staffing and student enrollment numbers. Some of our teachers may be re-

assigned to a different grade level next year, some teachers may change school sites, and

others may be retiring. I do recognize that as a parent, you have valuable information about your child as a learner. If there are special concerns or desired outcomes that I need to consider for your child, please complete a parent input form. The form is attached to the newsletter as a google form and is also available in our school office. The completed input form must be received in the school office by Friday, March 20th. One last key ingredient to the success of this process is trust. I am asking you to trust our educational specialists to make the best possible placement with all the information at our disposal. We will do our very best in placing your child in a classroom where they will be the most successful!

Message from Alamos PTO

Hello Alamos Families,

We can’t believe we are already soaring into March and Spring is just around the corner. We would like to thank everyone who participated in our Bubble Fun Run. Your support helped us raise over $50,500.00. This event/fundraiser would not have been a huge success without your support. We would like to give a huge shout out to Mrs. Kim Buck and Mrs. Kathy Toner for all their hard work and dedication to this event. Thank you to all our volunteers that helped on the day of the Mega Party, thank you for helping us supervise and keep our students safe. We could not do all we do without the support of our Alamos Family. We really appreciate all the time and support you have given so far throughout this school year.

We have some very exciting events coming up in the next two months.

March 18th - we have lots of fun planned. Open House will be from 6:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Our 2nd Annual Science Fair will be going on all week and families are welcome to view the science fair projects on March 18th from 5:00 P.M. to 5:50 P.M. before our Open House Starts. Our Basket Raffle Winners will also be announced on this night at 7:00 P.M. Good Luck to all those who participate in our Raffle.

March 11th - We will be having a PTO Meet and Greet where you can come and hear about all the positions PTO has to offer for next year and ask any questions for the positions you might be interested in signing up for next year’s board.

April 17th – is our next General Membership PTO Meeting and we will be holding our annual elections for our four officer positions on this day. We invite all members to attend and help us in congratulating our new officers for next year once we count ballots and announce them in the meeting.

April 20th – 24th - will be our Spring Follett Book Fair

April 23rd - Our students will enjoy watching their fellow schoolmates’ imagination to come to life on stage with Imagination Machine. We have some amazing future authors at AES.

Thank you again for all your support. We are excited to continue working alongside you this year for our students.

If you are interested in being a part of our PTO next year, but you want a little more information before you sign up for a position, we will be having a PTO Meet and Greet on March 11 at 9:15 am in Room 42. We will be going over all positions and their responsibilities and answer any questions you may have. We are really excited to get our board for next year together and start planning for the coming year.
