CSD Weekly Update
WEEK #31, April 23, 2021, Cambrian School District
Dear Cambrian Families,
It is hard to believe that we just finished Week #31 in the Cambrian School District!
As you many have heard, yesterday was Cambrian District Day of the Employee. The Cambrian School District Board of Trustees recognized Thursday, April 22, 2021, as the Day of the Employee in honor of the many outstanding contributions and services provided by teachers, classified employees, and administrators in the Cambrian School District. I am so grateful for the amazing staff in our district.
As I mentioned last week, the Governing Board unanimously supported increasing in-person instruction for the remainder of the 2020-21 school year beginning Monday, May 3rd. You should have received an update just minutes ago as to the schedule outline starting on May 3rd. Each school site principal will be following up with details as to what the day will look like at their specific school so you can plan accordingly. Without a doubt, we have all been waiting for this day to bring students back for full day instruction and the time has arrived.
Once again, thank you to everyone during these unique times adapting to the various changes. Our united goal has been to continue to serve our students and greater community. Thanks for your extraordinary support. We are CAMBRIAN!

Interest Survey: Virtual School Program for 2021-22 School Year
The Cambrian School District would like to determine if district families have any interest in the option of a virtual school program for the 2021-22 school year. This virtual school program would require that your child be educated daily through an online platform only.
At this time, we are not committing to offering a virtual school program for the 2021-22 school year nor are we asking you to commit, however, at this time we just want to gauge if there is parent interest in a fully virtual program for next year.
We ask that you complete the survey ONLY if you are interested in a virtual learning option for the 2021-22 school year. Please answer the survey for the grade level(s) that your student(s) will be in NEXT SCHOOL YEAR.
This survey will close on Friday, April 30th to allow us the opportunity to assess if we will offer a virtual school program next year.
Interest Survey: Virtual School Program for 2021-22 School Year communication sent out earlier today.
Attention 6th Grade Parents
In preparation for the upcoming 7th grade school year all 2021-2022 7th graders are required to have additional immunizations. Students starting 7th Grade need:
• Tetanus, Diphtheria, Pertussis (Tdap) —1 dose (Whooping cough booster is usually given at 11 years and up)
• Varicella (Chickenpox) — 2 doses (Usually given at ages 12 months and 4-6 years)
In addition, the TK/K-12 immunization requirements apply to 7th graders who:
• previously had a valid personal beliefs exemption filed before 2016 upon entry between TK/Kindergarten and 6th grade
• are new admissions Records: California schools are required to check immunization records for all new student admissions at TK/Kindergarten through 12th grade and all students advancing to 7th grade before entry.
Parents must show their child’s Immunization Record as proof of immunization.
Please see the Parent’s Guide to Immunizations Required for School Entry for additional information.
New Requirements for exemptions
Starting January 1, 2021:
Medical exemptions can only be issued through the California Immunization Registry – Medical Exemption website (CAIR-ME) by physicians licensed in California.
Schools and child care facilities may only accept from parents new medical exemptions that are issued using CAIR-ME.
Parents and physicians can register and create an account in CAIR-ME at any time. Once registered, parents can log in to CAIR-ME to request a medical exemption. Parents take the exemption request number to their child’s physician who can log in to CAIR-ME to issue the exemption. Once the exemption is issued, the physician prints the two-page form and provides a copy to the parents to give to their child’s school or child care facility. Instructions to Request a Medical Exemption. Please see Shotsforschool.org for additional information.
Health Reminders for Students' Oral Health
Now more than ever it is important that students are up to date on their health check up and immunizations. All transitional kindergarten, kindergarten and first grade, whichever is his or her first year in public school, need to have an oral health assessment (dental check-up) by May 31, 2021.
Assessments that have happened within the 12 months before your child enters school also meet this requirement. Take the attached Oral Health Assessment/Waiver Request form to the dental office, as it will be needed for your child’s check-up. If you cannot take your child for this required assessment, please indicate the reason for this in Section 3 of the form.
The following resources will help you find a dentist and complete this requirement for your child:
Medi-Cal/Denti-Cal’s toll-free number or Web site can help you to find a dentist who takes Denti-Cal: 1-800-322-6384; http://www.denti-cal.ca.gov. For help enrolling your child in Medi-Cal/Denti-Cal, contact your local social service agency at (fill in appropriate local contact information, available at http://www.denti-cal.ca.gov/WSI/Bene.jsp?fname=ProvReferral.)2
Healthy Families’ toll-free number or Web site can help you to find a dentist who takes Healthy Families insurance or to find out if your child can enroll in the program: 1-800-880-5305 or http://www.benefitscal.com/.3
For additional resources that may be helpful, contact Santa Clara County public health department at (408) 758-3800.
Many things influence a child’s progress and success in school, including health. Children must be healthy to learn, and children with cavities are not healthy. Cavities are preventable, but they affect more children than any other chronic disease.
If you have questions about the new oral health assessment requirement, please contact Degie Hosmer, RN, at hosmerd@cambriansd.com.
