The Hard Palate
How does the hard palate affect your speaking?
Function
The function of the hard palate is both for speech and eating. The hard palate is crucial along with the tongue to help create certain phonetic sounds.
Anatomy
The hard palate is what is between the nasal and oral cavities. It borders the oral cavity to form the roof of your mouth and is a smooth curved structure.
Hard Palate Disorders
The most common hard palate disorder is one that is a hole on the top of the mouth connected to the nasal cavity. This causes problems with them formulating words and can leave with suction problems when drinking through a straw. This is a cancer that needs special surgery to take care of and shouldn't be taken lightly.
