PTO Teacher Appreciation Breakfast
Dear Parents,
The 2017-2018 school year is coming to a close, and we all have the opportunity during National Teacher Appreciation Week to show our teachers and staff how much we appreciate them for working daily with our children. The Lee P.T.O. will host an Appreciation Breakfast for our teachers and staff on Wednesday, May 9, 2018 at 7:15 a.m. in the teachers’ lounge. Please help make this event a success by donating a breakfast food item or by sending a monetary donation in an envelope with your child to the front desk by Thursday, May 3, 2018.
On the morning of the Appreciation Breakfast, you can drop off your food donation at the front of the school between 6:45 a.m. and 7:05 a.m. We are also in need of a few parents to help serve food and beverages. Remember, any small amount of time/help from each of us will make a HUGE difference!
Please sign up for the following items on our Google doc: https://tinyurl.com/yahqkemm
Sincerely,
Angelia Guillot
Lee P.T.O.

Electronic Device Policy
Dear Parents or Guardians,
In order to maintain an optimum testing environment for students, the Texas Education Agency (TEA) has determined that students are not permitted to have cell phones or personal electronic devices that allow internet access or have photographic capabilities during testing as the devices can disrupt the testing environment and be used to compromise the security and confidentiality of the test.
Electronic devices must be turned off and not be visible; therefore, students are not allowed to place or receive a cell phone call or text message during a test administration.
The district policy regarding cell phone use during the school day can be found on pages CC ‐ 46 & 47 of the Cypress‐Fairbanks ISD Student Code of Conduct handbook.
During the instructional school day, students are prohibited from using all telecommunication devices…. Such devices must not be visible and must remain turned off… Placing the cell phone into silent/vibrate mode and text messaging is not considered “turned off” and is prohibited.
If a student violates this CFISD policy, then his/her device will be confiscated and will be returned after an administrative fee is collected. District personnel will not assume responsibility for damaged, lost or stolen items.
Violation of this policy during any state assessment is considered cheating and will require the appropriate disciplinary action as described in the CFISD Student Code of Conduct handbook.
Violation of this policy during any state assessment such as, but not limited to, EOC, STAAR, TAKS, locally designed assessment, etc. prohibits an optimum testing environment and, therefore, may result in an invalid assessment.
Use of a cell phone or any other unapproved electronic device during the administration of these tests will be regarded as cheating, and the student’s test will be invalidated (test will not be scored) with appropriate disciplinary action to follow.
Additionally, secondary students will be asked to sign an honor statement before taking any version of the EOC, TAKS or TELPAS tests. The statement, shown below, will be printed on each student’s answer sheet, and students will be asked to sign it before testing begins.
Please discuss the importance of adhering to this policy with your child. If you have any questions or concerns, your campus counselor is available to assist you.
Lost and Found
Dear Parents - Our lost and found is overflowing! We have a lot of jackets, sweaters, lunch kits, etc. that need to be claimed. Please come look through the baskets in the cafeteria and see if you can find anything that belongs to your student. Anything not claimed by June 1st will be donated to charity. Please note that small lost items like eye glasses are in the front office.
Credit By Exam
Students in grades K-5 will have four opportunities during the school year to use “credit-by-exam” to accelerate to another grade level. Students will only have one opportunity to test for each grade level considered.
To apply to take the test to skip kindergarten, a student must be 5 by September 1, and registered in a CFISD school. To apply to take the test to skip grade 1, a student must be 6 by September 1, and enrolled in a CFISD school.
Students who earn scores of 80% or better on each component of the credit-by-exam will qualify to advance one grade. Only one grade level may be “skipped” each year. No retests will be given.
If you are interested in getting more information about credit-by-exam, please contact the school counselor. Applications are due June 1, 2018.
Reminders from the Registrar
If your child is currently enrolled in Cypress-Fairbanks I.S.D., and over the summer you move within the district, the new campus will request your child's records from his/her previous school after you register. New student registration will be held on August 13 – 17, 2018. Also, Lee report cards will not be handed out if your child is not in attendance on the last day of school on June 1st. If you have any questions, please call the attendance office at 713-849-8285.
