WEEKLY UPDATE FROM THE SUPERINTENDENT, DR. SHIBLER

Dear RPS Stakeholders:

Although we're still wrapping up the current school year, I want to let you know for your planning purposes, the Board of Education has approved next year's school calendar. The 2021-22 school year calendar can be found on our website here.

As we close in on the end of this school year, we will be saying good-bye to many of our valued employees who will be retiring. With those retirements comes a loss of much experience but also opportunities for those seeking employment. If you are interested or know anyone who may be interested in working for the Rockford Public Schools in either a support or certified staff capacity, please look for our job postings on the Kent Consortium webpage. Be sure to check back as positions are updated regularly.

Over the past several weeks, COVID numbers in Michigan were trending downward, however, they are now on the rise again. The rollout of the vaccines will help over time, but until more people are vaccinated and we see a consistent decline in cases, it is imperative that anyone displaying COVID symptoms or advised to quarantine stays home. It will take all of us working together to finish strong and not put others at risk of either contracting the virus or having to quarantine because they are identified as a close contact. We will continue to monitor the data and follow the directives issued by the state and county health departments. Please help us by doing the same.

RPS MASK POLICY

It is mandatory to wear a mask at all times while at school and it must be worn properly while covering your nose and mouth.

Please be sure to send your child to school with a mask each day. If a student's mask breaks or becomes unsanitary, the NRMS Main Office can provide one.

Secondary Full Face To Face Attendance Reporting

COVID Related Absence

Students that are unable to attend school due to COVID will be supported through live-streamed instruction via Google Meet, just as was done during hybrid instruction. COVID related absences include:

· Student is exhibiting symptoms and awaiting test results

· Student has tested positive and has to quarantine for a scheduled period of time

· Student was a close contact and has to quarantine

Absence not Related to COVID

Students that are unable to attend school for traditional short-term absences will utilize Schoology to participate in makeup work. A live streaming option will not be provided for students who are missing for non-COVID short term absences.

IF YOU'RE NOT FEELING WELL AT SCHOOL....REMINDER TO PARENTS AND STUDENTS

Please remind your child, if they are not feeling well, they need to let their teacher know and be excused to go down to the Main Office Health Room. Mrs. Bargwell will make a call to parents if necessary.

Students should not call or text parents from their personal phones.

NRMS STUDENT DROP-OFF REMINDERS

Dear Parents,

We have noticed morning drop-off has recently been extremely backed up on 10 Mile all the way to Northland Drive, creating traffic issues for the public. This is a reminder that drop-off begins at the Northeast end of the parking lot and all vehicles are to pull all the way through the drop zone to maximize the number of students exiting cars. Students are not to be dropped off at the main entrance or staff parking lot. Thank you for reviewing these protocols and the attached diagram to ensure all students arrive at school safely and on time. We appreciate your attention to this matter as safety is our first priority.

Sincerely,

North Rockford Middle School Administration and RPS Security
