EMPOWER CONFERENCE
https://sites.google.com/kleinisd.net/empowerdigitalconference/home
Welcome to our first ever Digital Learning Conference where classroom teachers, specialists, librarians, and administrators will be sharing their innovative instructional practices. On this website you will find all of the information that you need to plan your day. You are welcome to spend the whole day with us or come for just part of the day. This will be a day to build community and reimagine learning with personnel from within the district.
We are excited to have John Spencer, the author of Empower, and Alice Keeler, author and Google Certified Innovator, as our keynote speakers for the day.
Don't forget that you will need to bring your fully charged laptop. Charging stations will be available for you to use throughout the day. Please bring earbuds or headphones as you will need them in some of the sessions.
An app is coming soon that will help you navigate your way through the conference. The app includes a list of all the scheduled sessions and room assignments, links to Twitter and a live chat, and more.
SCHOOLOGY END OF COURSE GUIDE FOR TEACHERS
End of Course Checklist for Teachers is now available from the Digital Learning Team. This checklist walks you through the process of prepping your Schoology courses for the end of the year. Keep in mind that all Skyward generated courses will be archived on June 1st. Before you begin the process of saving your course materials to your Resources, use this time to delete any content that you didn't use in the last year (specifically unused older content imported from Blackboard.
NEW KISD SERVICE DESK IS COMING
For a sneak peek, click on the New User Guide or check out the new Schoology course called Service Desk Tutorial in A Beginner's Guide to Digital Resources to view an overview. To join the Schoology group, log into Schoology, then go to Group > Join > and enter the code 2ZQB6-BD5FW.
Note: All other applications (Aware, Facilities & Events, ForeThought, Formspace, Strive, and Workshop) will remain available in Eduphoria.
LEAVING KISD BUT STILL WANT ACCESS TO YOUR GOOGLE FILES??
- Teachers leaving Klein can use Google Takeout to create an archive file of their Klein Google content. Archived content can be stored on an external hard drive or uploaded to a personal online storage location.
- This Google support page provides additional information about the process and results.
- Items which are not included in the export can usually be downloaded and added to saved files. Depending on sharing privileges for the document, teachers may need to make a copy of some items in order to download them.
- Remember that resources created for use in Klein while an individual has been employed in Klein remain property of the district. Teachers should not remove resources that teams have used and continue using.
- Student products and assignments are part of students’ education records and should remain in Klein in accordance with FERPA.
- Staff who plan to use the Google Takeout process to download a copy of their files should not wait until the last contract day to do so. Encourage staff to begin this process early next week so that it can be re-done if an initial attempt does not work.

Discovery Education Discontinued at the End of this School Year
Teachers, don't forget that Discovery Education will be no longer be available beyond the 2017-18 school year. Any downloaded content from Discovery Education MUST BE DELETED by the end of the school year because the district will no longer be a subscriber to the service.
As an alternative, teachers may complete a help desk ticket to create a “white listed” YouTube channel to post any videos they have created for students to use. If teachers would like to use videos that they have found on YouTube, they may submit a help desk ticket for multiple videos at once.
Reminder: NetStart Teacher Web Pages Will Be Removed July 2018
Reminder: Next Year Teacher Web/Media Presence Will Be Your Choice
In Denise MClean's article in a recent issue of The Exchange, she stated that teachers will have more options on how best to communicate with parents in the 2018–19 school year. To summarize the article, teachers will be able to choose whichever online presence best fits their communication style. Keep in mind that the new online presence must be regularly updated throughout the school year so that parents can stay connected with the classroom instruction and expectations of their child’s learning. This presence may include Schoology, Google Sites, Weebly, or any social platform the teacher selects and is approved by their campus administration.
NOTE: The Krimmel administrative team decided that teachers NO LONGER need to maintain a separate teacher web page as long as they continue to keep their Schoology courses up to date. As a result, teachers will be able to include the Schoology URL and a blurb about the Parent Portal in the Personal Message through the School Messenger User Profile (see below).
Reminders
- Please make sure when you are composing or forwarding an email that you include "KISD" in the subject box. #notSPAM
- At the end of July 2018, teacher NetStart websites will be officially shut down so if you have anything that you want off of it please make sure to save it to your desktop. #SoLongNetStart
- Don’t forget to check out the Hilde Pineapple Chart and sign up to invite others into your classroom or stop by another teacher’s class during your conference period. #HildeMustangsUnite17
