Class Scheduling for the 2018-2019 School Year
As we just start 2018, it is already time to start talking about the 2018-2019 School Year. Scheduling for next year will take place over the next two months. We wanted to give you information regarding band options for your students.
Current 6th Graders
We have been so impressed with the year's 6th grade band and cannot wait until next year to have them participate in our junior high ensembles! Band at Fall Creek JH is quite a bit different than at the intermediate level. We have four ability based groups: Beginning Band (which is what are current 6th graders are participating in now), Concert Band, Varsity Band, and Symphonic Band. Directors will place students in the appropriate group based on this year's progress and instrumentation needs per group. All band's at FCJH are a mix of 7th and 8th grade students. ALL students receive SOAR time at the junior high. Band does not conflict with any extracurricular sport, club, or other activity. As 7th graders, students get to choose one elective, however, as 8th graders more options are available. Students who are in band as a 7th grader can still take FACS, Art, and Tech Ed as an 8th grader while continuing to play their instrument! We will discuss this in detail at the concert. Please check the Incoming 7th Grade Brochure attached to the email for more information. All you need to do is put BAND on your schedule!
Current 7th Graders
This year's 7th graders are our largest group we have had at FCJH and cannot wait to have them next year as leaders in our groups for the 2018-2019 school year. 8th graders have more elective options as they schedule for their classes, so they can be in band and take classes like FACS, Art, and Tech Ed. Guidance Counselors will be visiting 7th grade social studies class later this month to discuss scheduling with students. All you need to do is put BAND on your schedule! Please email us if you have any questions!
Current 8th Graders
We are very excited about the opportunities that await our 8th grade students next year in high school band. It is our hope that every 8th grader continues the excellent work they have achieved over the past two years as they participate in the high school band program. HSE bands have a long tradition of excellence in the state of Indiana and it is an exciting time for students as they become a Royal. Many questions arise as we start talking about high school classes. Below are two documents that include more information regarding band at the high school. Mr. Niemiec and Mrs. Torres will be visiting 8th grade students during class later this month to talk about high school band. If you have any questions, please contact them for clarification. mniemiec@hse.k12.in.us atorres@hse.k12.in.us
FCI 6th BAND AND WEATHER DELAYS
“Research shows that students who participate in musical ensembles at school have higher attendance rates and test scores. Even more, new studies show that making music with peers as part of the school day can lead to increased levels of empathy and can lead to making friends faster!”
