Youthful, Radiant You!
The first thing you see when you look in the mirror is that gorgeous face of yours! And, it's the first thing others see too. If you're anything like me, you want your skin to have that youthful, healthy glow. There are so many skin care products on the market today that taut themselves as anti-aging, or that they can reverse the signs of aging. But, what gives those products age-defying properties? Take a moment and read the ingredients, then ask yourself if you would eat it? If the answer is no, then keep on reading. In this edition, we will focus on nourishing your skin naturally to keep keep it healthy, radiant and young looking!
They Say "You Are What You Eat"
And there is truth to that. Eating processed foods & sugars can overtax your pancreas, one of the body's organs, and cause diabetes. Well, our skin is our body's largest organ, so what we "feed" our skin will have an effect on it too. Not only that, but our skin can absorb what we feed & it can enter the bloodstream affecting other organs. So, it is just as important to nourish our skin with healthy foods as it is to eat healthy. My motto is - if I wouldn't eat it, I won't put it on my skin. There are many foods that can nourish your body from the inside out and the outside in. Take for instance Avocado. Avocado has become very popular over the last decade as a “superfood”. In fact, Dr. Frank Lipman (http://www.drfranklipman.com/the-super-7-foods-with-benefits/) lists avocado fruit (yes, having a single seed, avocado is actually a berry!), as #3 in his Top 9 List of Superfoods. It can help with weight loss, reduce cholesterol levels & prevent cancer. Avocado oil contains lutein, sterolin, anti-oxidants, omega-3 fatty acids, and a host of other nutrients that are beneficial for the skin & hair. That's just one great example of a food that provides nourishment for the body inside & out. So incorporate avocado into your diet & look for skin care products that contain avocado oil.
Love My Little Blueberries!
As I'm sitting here writing this, I'm popping these lovely little blue berries into my mouth. And, there are so many ways to eat them - just pop them in your mouth like candy, use in cereal, add to smoothies, cook with them & dry them out and use them in teas. Sweet, plump and juicy, they are rich in fiber, vitamins & minerals, and antioxidants. They are low in fat and contain Vitamin C that helps build collagen. Studies have shown that blueberries may reduce the risk of heart disease in women, which is the leading cause of death for women. Anthocyanins, which gives blueberries their deep blue color, can help prevent cancer cells from forming. The many vitamins in blueberries can help prevent acne by decreasing the production of sebum, and strengthen the blood vessels & capillaries in the skin to reduce redness & blotchiness. Blueberries have anti-aging properties because the antioxidants & phytochemicals attack free-radicals that otherwise would damage your skin cells. Enhance your skin's beauty from the inside out by adding a handful of blueberries to your daily diet! Give it a try and see the difference.
