MOUNTAIN BIKE TEAM, SPACE RACE COMPETITION
The Space Race is this Sunday, April 29th at the Space and Rocket Center. Races start at 9:30 a.m. with the high school boys, middle school boys at 11:15 a.m., middle school girls at 12:00 p.m., and high school girls at 1:00 p.m. We have 18 high school and 19 middle school racers competing. We are currently in a shootout for fourth place in the state standings and this race could possibly put us ahead!! We have some of the fastest kids in the state racing and competing with over 400 other student athletes comprising 32 teams from all over the state and includes teams from Florida and Mississippi.
This is certain to be one of the most epic and memorable NICA venues anywhere in the country. An equal share of single track and double track as well as a once in a lifetime opportunity to race under the belly of the space shuttle and right down the center of "rocket alley". Be sure to go check it out and support BHS Mountain Bike Team!

HUMAN BODY SYSTEMS, MRS. BRICKHOUSE
Do you have P.A.D.??? Let's do a quick ABI to find out... #hbs #pltw
Peripheral artery disease (P.A.D.) is a disease in which plaque builds up in the arteries that carry blood to your head, organs, and limbs. Plaque is made up of fat, cholesterol, calcium, fibrous tissue, and other substances in the blood. When plaque builds up in the body's arteries, the condition is called atherosclerosis. Over time, plaque can harden and narrow the arteries. This limits the flow of oxygen-rich blood to your organs and other parts of your body. P.A.D. usually affects the arteries in the legs, but it also can affect the arteries that carry blood from your heart to your head, arms, kidneys, and stomach.
A simple test, called an ankle-brachial index or ABI, can help determine whether you have peripheral artery disease. Mrs. Brickhouse's HBS students performed those screenings this week!

Huntsville Hospital Foundation, SPEAK Student Ambassador Program
Huntsville Hospital Foundation is now accepting applications for its 2018-2019
SPEAK Student Ambassador Program. The program is open to upcoming high school sophomores, juniors and seniors in Huntsville City, Madison City, and Madison County Schools.
SPEAK Student Ambassadors are responsible for promoting suicide prevention and awareness among other students, teachers and faculty in their schools. All ambassadors receive training for crisis intervention and awareness, and help provide resources on topics such as suicide, feelings, self-esteem, bullying, depression, and anxiety through the SPEAK North Alabama mobile app and other
initiatives.
We are looking for SPEAK student ambassadors who are thoughtful leaders and advocates in their schools. Suicide is the third leading cause of death for ages 15 through 24 in the state of Alabama. The SPEAK suicide prevention program seeks to address and reduce that number by providing education and prevention resources. Our ambassadors are crucial to this effort.
The 2017-2018 class of SPEAK Student Ambassadors was comprised of 47 student ambassadors representing 15 area public and private schools. If you know a student who would be interested in applying, please share the following link with him or her - https://goo.gl/DyifPY

Sign Up to Round Up!
The Round Up Program was started by The Schools Foundation and Huntsville Utilities to support local public school systems. The Schools Foundation is a funding partner of Madison County Schools. The more residential and commercial locations that round up, the more funding we can receive. Estimates show that if just half of the residential Huntsville Utilities users rounded up, it would generate approximately $500,000 to support our schools! By rounding up your utility bill to the nearest dollar each month, you help invest in the future of our students!
You can easily sign up to round up online:
http://www.hsvutil.org/myhsvu…/checkbill/roundup/signup.html
It might be a penny, it might be 25 cents, it might be 99 cents, but it will be no more than $11.88 a year. It takes less than 1 minute to fill out.
Thank you for supporting one of our community partners! Go Bucks!

Your organization invites the public to attend, they provide the treats. Your organization will receive 20% of all yogurt sales to put towards your goal. Non-profit status is required for community groups. School groups must have permission from the school principal to fundraise.
