Principal's Message
Hello Wildcat Pride,
Just briefly this week I want to say thank you to those of you that are trusting us with your kids.
I shared with my staff this week that as we head into the next month or so, they are so many things that this world has going on that set us up to treat one another poorly. Between the different emotions around politics, Covid 19, and all the other things going on it becomes easy to forget in our emotions that each of is blessed to have the ability to think for ourselves. When we try to force our views on someone else, it is only going to cause strife and hurt. To share our beliefs and ideas with one another in a discussion that is meant to educate is incredible, when we take someone's decision to not follow our lead as disrespect and then treat them disrespectfully is where we get into trouble. Please remember to be the best and kindest person you can be. Be an example of what a true democratic republic is supposed to be, a free and non-personal exchange of ideas.
Please as we head into the changing weather, remember to be checking your daily health assessment before sending the students off to school, if we are not all in this together, then we are going to all be out of it and alone again.
Thanks have a great week,
Rod Huston

Early College Programs
It’s never too early to start thinking about college. CGCC has programs designed to help students seamlessly transition from high school to college. These programs allow students to earn college credit while in high school, save on tuition and transfer these credits to a degree or certificate program.
Achieve a College Education (ACE):
ACE is an early college two-year, scholarship-based program. The mission is to increase the success rate of the first generation, under-represented or financially disadvantaged college-bound students. Students take classes at CGCC’s Pecos campus on Saturdays during the school year and Mondays-Thursdays during the summer. Eligible sophomores may apply for this program. Learn more at cgc.edu/ace.
Hoop of Learning:
Hoop of Learning is a scholarship-based program for American Indian students created to encourage and empower students to complete high school and transition to college. The goal is to reduce economic and cultural barriers that American Indians may face entering higher education. Students take classes at CGCC’s Pecos campus on Saturdays during the school year and Mondays-Thursdays during the summer. Eligible 9-12th grade students may apply for this program. Learn more at cgc.edu/hoopoflearning.
Applications for the ACE and Hoop of Learning early college programs are available in the MHS Career Center. The application deadline is November 30, 2020.

Message from our Athletic Director
As we start turning our attention towards Fall sports playoffs, we also begin to look ahead to our winter sports. If you have a student looking to tryout for basketball, soccer, or wrestling they MUST be cleared in Register My Athlete prior to tryouts. That means they've got their physical and completed their Brainbook course. If you have questions about that, click HERE or send your student in to the Athletics office and we'll be happy to help.

Gilbert Education Foundation:
Gilbert Education Foundation raises money to fund their S.H.A.N.E. social services program - Sharing, Helping and Nurturing Everyone. This program was named in honor of Dr. Shane McCord, our Superintendent. The S.H.A.N.E. program helps all GPS faculty, and staff as well as our GPS students & families. This program through generous donations has helped GPS staff and families with utility bills to avoid disconnect, medicine, medical bills, surgery copays, emergency shelter, car repairs, and much more. GEF is completely confidential for all employees and GPS families, and they typically provide funding with less than a 24-hour turn-around. They help bridge the gap for those who may have experienced hardship – unemployment, cancer, death in the family, extremely large unexpected bills and got behind, etc. This helps employees and families that would normally not meet income requirements for traditional social service organizations, but just need a few bills paid to get back on track. They also help find resources for those that would qualify for other help in the community. For more information, please contact Megan Mims, LMSW at Megan.Mims@gilbertschools.net
RED RIBBON WEEK is celebrated annually October 23-31 and is the nation’s oldest and largest drug prevention awareness program. Red Ribbon Week was started after the death of Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Special Agent Enrique “Kiki” Camarena, who in 1985 was killed by drug traffickers he was investigating in Mexico. As a tribute to SA Camarena his high school friend, Henry Lozano and Congressman Duncan Hunter, created “Camarena Clubs” and the wearing of a red ribbon to show their opposition to drugs. Mrs. Mims will be in the courtyard during lunches on Monday, Thursday, and Friday next week with lots of drug prevention facts and tips as well as some goodies for the students.
