New News
Healthy children are successful learners. Children work hard during the school day and need to be healthy to be able to put the needed energy into a school day. An ill child is not able to put forth their all to be a successful learner during a school day.
To protect all the children in the district…Mt. Lebanon follows the Allegheny County Health Department Guide to Infectious Diseases. (ACHD Guide to Infectious Diseases in Schools); the CDC Guidelines and the AAP).
Knowing when to keep children home, helps protect everyone and gives the ill child time to recover.
Please keep your child home from school if they have:
Fever - greater than 100 degrees
Will need to be fever free without the use of fever reducing medications 24 hours prior to return
Nausea/Vomiting/Diarrhea
24 hours since symptoms have subsided
Contagious Illnesses - such as:
Strep Throat
Pink Eye
Positive Covid - 19
Influenza (flu)
Unexplained/undiagnosed rash
Chicken Pox
Fifths Disease
24 hours have passed since the start of an Antibiotic for an illness
Continuous coughing/sneezing that impacts the child’s ability to learn and be in class.
Practicing good health hygiene is important…please encourage proper handwashing and to cover your cough/sneeze.
Please make sure to contact your child’s physician with any symptoms or concerns and to notify your child’s school nurse of any illnesses.

Resources For Families
The MTLSD School Counselors in partnership with The Allegheny Children's Initiative Inc., have compiled a list of social services resources that may be helpful to you and your family. Please take a look and reach out to these organizations. They are here to help with any of the following:
- Food
- Rent/Mortgage
- Utilities
- Pets
- Abuse
- Mental Health
- General Assistance
Safe2Say Something is a youth violence prevention program run by the Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General. The program teaches youth and adults how to recognize warning signs and signals, especially within social media, from individuals who may be a threat to themselves or others and to “say something” BEFORE it is too late. With Safe2Say Something, it’s easy and confidential to report safety concerns to help prevent violence and tragedies.
Here’s how it works:
- Submit a report through the Safe2SaySomething system
- Crisis center reviews, assesses and processes all submissions
- Crisis center sends all submissions to school administration and/or law enforcement for intervention
- If needed, crisis center may contact tipster anonymously through the app
