CHS Family News 11/16/2020
CHS Reopening Plan Update:
CHS is designing new forms of support across all areas of instruction. Information will be made available as soon as details are formalized.
Is your child accessing Support Hour with his or her teachers? If not, that is the best way to get personalized tutoring/help to support growth and learning. How do you help your child sign up? Log in to your parent view of your child's PowerSchool and look for "how to access Support Hour" and follow those directions.
Are your child's academic scores suffering significantly because he or she is unable to independently manage his or her at-home academic time? If so, contact your child's counselor or assistant principal to discuss supports on campus that your child may be able to access to provide structure that will support academic growth.

The San Diego Foundation's 2021-2022 Common Scholarship Application
As you may know, The San Diego Foundation's 2021-2022 Common Scholarship Application will open Wednesday, December 2nd. Many awards included in the application have criteria that makes them better suited to specific groups of students, which means that counselors, administrators, mentors, and community members are vital to helping match those students with relevant awards.
We encourage you to inform potential applicants about the following relevant awards/categories:
Cele and Lew Kipperman
Click here to find corresponding scholarship flyers.
There are also more than a dozen separate awards that are administered by The San Diego Foundation but not included in the Common Scholarship Application. These opportunities should be of interest to any motivated students that you may know, and we appreciate you taking the time to pass the information along to them.
In addition to listing separate awards, The San Diego Foundation website has a number of other tools to help students, parents, and mentors navigate the scholarships process. On the students tab you can find a full list of award criteria, Tips for a Competitive Application, and a practice application to prepare for December 2nd.

Free lunch meals available daily for those in need!
The Child Nutrition Services Department realizes that students cannot learn without having nutritious foods to eat. Therefore, we have decided to offer free meals daily to those students in need, starting the week of November 2nd.
Per USDA regulations, students are only allowed to receive one breakfast and/or lunch meal daily. If a student receives weekly meals (7 breakfasts and 7 lunches) through our bulk meal distribution on Mondays, they will not be able to take part in the daily lunches available at their school site.
If you would like your student(s) to receive free meals daily (or on a specific day), you must notify Charity Campbell, Director of Child Nutrition Services, one week in advance. A consent form will be emailed to you, stating that your student(s) did not receive meals through the bulk meal distribution. The signed copy must be emailed back prior to student meal pick up for record keeping purposes.
The bagged lunch meal will consist of a cold entrée (such as a sandwich), a fruit, vegetable, and milk. The student (or parent) will be able to pick up the free lunch meal at the following times in their school cafeteria:
· Coronado High School: 11:45-12:30 (Monday); 11:30am-12:15pm (Tuesday-Friday)
*Please note that elementary school students must consume meals off campus.
Thank you and we look forward to serving you!
