The First Day
What To Expect
At 8:10, the whole school begins Morning Meeting. It is at this time that we ask you to say goodbye to your child. We will then gather at our large rug to start our day!
What To Bring
- A backpack - this year, every student will be getting a Home Folder that they will use to bring home work, finished projects, and important flyers and messages from Compass. Having a backpack helps your child stay organized and keeps their hands free on the stairwell.
- A change of weather appropriate clothes (for bathroom accidents, general messes, and for "just in case" situations)
- Summer Writing Booklets (there is a basket in the classroom to the right of the front door when you come in - please make sure the booklets are labelled with your Maple's name, and place them in!)
What Not To Bring
This year, every Compass student is provided with a reusable, sustainable water bottle from the school! We ask that you do not bring a personal water bottle for your child.
Toys
This year, we have a strict "no toy" policy. Toys are not allowed in school - that means not in the classroom, not at recess, and not in the cubbies. This includes action figures, figurines, and stuffed animals. If your child needs something to ease the transition from home to school, please make sure they hand it over to the grown-up that brought them to school before entering the building.
If you think your child would benefit from a transitional object or fidget at school, please talk to the classroom teachers before providing that object for your child. We have lots of ideas and tools that we would be happy to put to use! Additionally, we have a staff of experienced teachers and support staff that are more than willing to brainstorm solutions.
Food with Nuts or Sesame
Starting this year, we are a completely nut and sesame free school.
As always, reach out to us with any questions!
