GES Learning Walk

Gladden will host a learning walk on Thursday, December 17th from 10:00 - 11:00. Central Office and building administration from the district along with instructional coaches will visit Gladden during this time. ALL classrooms and settings will have at least one group of administrators and instructional coaches observe for fifteen minutes. These learning walks are non-evaluative. The Library will be closed from approximately 10:45 - 11:00 for the debriefing. A summary of feedback will be shared following the learning walk. Please see Amanda with any questions or if you will not be in your classroom for your regularly scheduled time.

Special Assembly - Friday, December 18th

Academy Sports and Outdoors is blessing the children of the Belton School District again this year and generously donating bikes! We will host a special assembly on Friday, December 18th, to surprise students (who were randomly selected) with brand new bikes. The assembly will be at 9:30 and will last approximately thirty minutes. Do not share this information with students. The office will be contacting families the afternoon before to inform them. Teachers will be notified that afternoon as well. See Amanda with any questions.

Arrival Supervision Expectations

Staff that do not have an assigned morning duty should be outside their classroom door to supervise the hallway and greet students beginning at 8:20. Lack of appropriate supervision creates safety concerns and a chaotic environment.

Gladden Master Schedule

The Site Team will be beginning the process to review and revise the Gladden Master Schedule. The initial stages will include calculating instructional blocks for each grade level and comparing this data to other district elementary schedules. This team will seek input from their grade levels and department colleagues. It is important to note that while there will be input from all stakeholders there will be certain established priorities and non-negotiables set forth administratively.

Belton Education Foundation Grants

Belton Educational Foundation is looking for innovative classroom and building projects that will have a lasting impact on our students. This year, grants can be accessed Google forms. Instructions are on the application form. You can access the form here:

The deadline is February 9, 2016, at 4:00 pm. Applications will not be accepted after that time.

Grants will be awarded on March 15, 2016.

Grant assistance will be provided at the Foundation office; click this link to a Google doc in order to sign up: https://goo.gl/MxzT6x If none of these times work with your schedule, please contact Heather McFarland via email to set up another time.

See Amanda if you have an interest in writing a grant. A team will be working with Ivy to write a building grant, but there are plenty of opportunities for grade level, department or individual teacher grants. The more innovative grants the better!

February P.D. - Message From Dr. Hardee

We received great feedback from the November PD sessions. Our administrative team is planning to expand options for individualized PD at the February 12th PD. We realize that great things are happening throughout the district and would like to give teachers an opportunity to share ideas and/or volunteer for facilitation of break-out sessions.

After your suggestions are submitted, our administrative and coaching teams will review suggestions and design and finalize Feb 12th PD plans.

Please use the link provided to record topics of interest as well as volunteering for facilitation.

Absences Reminder

You are required to phone the principal, Amanda Spight, if you will be absent from work unexpectedly. You also need to log your absence on AESOP. You may call Amanda until 10:00 p.m. each evening and after 6:00 a.m. each morning at (816) 825-9021. Absences that are less than one hour before your reporting time must also call the Teresa Stocking 816-489-7001 to report the absence (AESOP will not accept absences that late).

Blue Snow Day and PLC

There will be NO PLC on the make up Blue Snow Day, February 15th, President's Day.

As you all know, attendance is a critical component in a student's social-emotional and academic success. The attendance expectation set forth by Missouri's Department of Elementary and Secondary Education is 90% of students must be present 90% or more. IF you have a student who is chronically arriving late, leaving early, or absent make sure to inform both Amanda and Amber.

Kindness Tree & Silent Gratitude

Silent Gratitude is a blog post I'd encourage you to read (click the link). This piece resonated deeply with me and I hope you find meaning in it as well. John O'Leary is a renowned motivational speaker from the St. Louis area whose sole mission is to help others live their life inspired. In these final days before break take a moment to encourage someone in our school family. Send a note of appreciation to a colleague and place a heart on our kindness tree located outside the conference room.
