Tyngsborough Elementary School
October 7, 2019 Update
We look forward to seeing you this Thursday, 10/10 at our Annual Open House.
Open House Schedule
Preschool & Kindergarten - 5:00-5:30
Grades 1-5 can choose either session to attend.
Session 1: 5:30-6:00
Session 2: 6:15-6:45
*Our Special Subject Team will be available during Open House. Please stop by their classrooms.
At this time, we feel it is best to postpone the Ice Cream Social and raffle. Details on rescheduling will be forthcoming.
We apologize for any inconvenience this has caused, but all decisions have been made to ensure we can host a successful Open House event.
MCAS Results
Last week, families of fourth and fifth grade students will be mailed a report showing their child’s performance on last spring’s MCAS testing. The report provides one indicator of how your child is performing in English Language Arts and Mathematics.
The results will be reported by achievement level and scaled scores:
Achievement Level Scaled Score
Exceeding Expectations 530-560
Meeting Expectations 500-529
Partially Meeting Expectations 470-499
Not Meeting Expectations 440-469
If you’d like to see a sample report, here is a link to an MCAS Parent Report Template. Parents who speak other languages will also receive a template in their native language.
In addition to MCAS results, you should consider what your child’s teachers tell you about their day-to-day performance in class. You should also consider how your child performs on classroom and districts assessments (e.g. unit assessments in math, writing tasks, etc.).

2019-2020 School Council
We are seeking 2-3 parents to join this year's School Council. We will meet 3 times over the course of the school year. Meetings will be held at TES at 7:30-8:30 a.m. Please email kerry.cavanaugh@tyngsboroughps.org if you are interested in joining. Thank you!
There are four major areas of responsibilities for councils. School councils are to assist principals in:
Adopting educational goals for the school that are consistent with local educational policies and statewide student performance standards
Identifying the educational needs of students attending the school
Reviewing the annual school building budget
- Formulating a school improvement plan/strategy for district improvement
Message from Mrs. LaRochelle, Library/Media Specialist
I'm kicking off an at-home, October activity that was shared with me by another librarian friend, a Storybook Pumpkin Patch. It's NOT a contest and it's absolutely not required, but if your kiddo is creative and wants to partake in designing a story-themed pumpkin (either real or on paper), see the attached notice and link. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to reach out to me. I'm excited to see all the amazing pumpkins!

Our library has never looked better! The energy and excitement around books is wonderful to see! We're always looking for volunteers to help out. Please see the link below to sign up.
I'm looking forward to some cooler weather...apple picking in 85 degree weather last Saturday was a bit of a disaster with all the bees - ha! Enjoy your weekend and don't forget to READ, READ, READ!

IMPORTANT REMINDER: Student Information Form
Recently, an email was sent in regards to completing the Student Information Form. The information form, accessible through the parent portal, is used to collect items such as family information, emergency contact data, and medical permissions. It is crucial that you complete this form as soon as possible. Failure to submit this form will affect your student’s ability to attend field trips, participate in after-school activities, and receive medications from the school nurse.

HALLOWEEN EXTRAVAGANZA - Wednesday, 10/30
Please send in a $1.00 donation for our Annual Adopt a Family.
This year, TES will provide the opportunity for students and staff to wear costumes on Wednesday, October 30th - Halloween! In order to make the day a success, we have developed a few guidelines.
Most importantly, all costumes must be school appropriate.
All students participating must come to school dressed in their costumes. Students should not bring makeup or hair products to school.
Basic Costume Don't's:
Costumes may not have parts that interfere with learning. This means no masks or costumes that restrict movement or vision, or prevent sitting at desks. Costumes must not obstruct movement in the hallways.
Costumes may not promote violence or have accessories or props that could be used as a weapon.
We are looking forward to everyone following the guidelines, coming up with creative costumes, and having fun!
Friendly Reminder: Please do not send food or candy into school.
