Alder Weekly Update
Week of September 27, 2020
Message from the Principal
Hello Alder Parents, Teachers and Students,
School is a busy place to be, whether virtual or in- person! I know our students are working very hard to attend Google Classroom sessions, participate, and get the work done. Teachers are preparing for countless hours to provide instruction for a diverse group of learners that changes every period. Parents are holding it altogether by adjusting to school virtually from home, while trying to manage their work and family. I commend everyone for taking on this challenge with a smile and your positivity whenever and wherever you can!
I also need to commend our MD teachers, students, and paraprofessionals, who are here each day. Mrs. Ash, Mrs. Hendrix, Ms. Tomlinson, Ms. Molina, and Mrs. Scarpa, along with their paraprofessionals, are at Alder teaching their young men and women in the classroom. They have brought some great energy back into our school and we are thankful for it. I have attached some pictures for you to enjoy!
This week teachers administered the Moby Max Math Placement, ELA Placement and Link It assessments. These tests are designed to give us a starting point of skill level for each of our students. Many of the skills in the assessment will be taught throughout the school year. In May- June, these same assessments will be administered again, allowing us to measure student learning growth.
Our counselors worked hard the past few weeks to check on students. They worked with our front office to obtain Chromebooks for students with technology needs. They made calls home to parents, so that their child(dren) would know that we truly need to see them in virtual classrooms. In addition, our counselors made wellness checks on students. Our counselors are here for you- just email them and reach out for help. Students, please check your emails as they are forming groups. They can assist with anything that affects your progress in school: academics and social concerns. We are here together to ensure your success.
I need to also give a huge shout out to our front office secretarial staff! Sharon, Ayana, and Bonnie have been working diligently to listen to issues, solve problems, and direct you with questions. They come to work with a smile and they bring happiness each day. Their presence is so important to Alder’s climate.
Finally, we are continuing our Renaissance Theme of Survivor-Season 2! This was shared a few weeks ago, but I wanted to state it again, as it could not be more appropriate. We acknowledge that THIS is not easy, but we will survive together. We will outsmart, outstudy, and outperform ALL!
