Message from Mr. Hanzeli
Hello Elger Bay Families!
Big thank you to everyone for continuing to work so diligently to help keep everyone safe and healthy. By using our systems for keeping students in cohorts and all the basics of social distancing, we have been able to limit the direct impacts to our hybrid classes.
As you may have heard, we did have two classes that did go into quarantine as as a result of contact tracing by our staff. Those students picked right up with their homeroom teacher in the distance learning model. I wanted to provide you with some information about how we communicate if that might happen.
If we are aware of a student or staff member who is either covid positive or "presumed positive" because they have covid symptoms and are living with others who have tested positive, we immediately begin contact tracing to determine which students and staff may have been close contacts on the day in question, minus two more days for onset.
Please be assured that if your child was a close contact, then you would receive notification from the school (usually a combination of letter to your Email via school messenger and a follow up call by our office team) with all the pertinent information about procedures and return date.
If you have not been notified, then your child was not considered a close contacts to the potential exposure.
A bit complicated, I know, but I wanted to provide you with some reassurance that if we do feel that your child may have been a close contact, we will do our very best to get ahold of you as soon as we can.
Please never hesitate to call and check in with our school team if you have questions.
With sincere appreciation to you all!
Victor Hanzeli

SCSD Friday Family Message, 3.5.21 (Repeat)
Good Afternoon, Families,
Return to School Update
The metrics for our region remain low enough that we are allowed to bring our high school students back to school in an AA/BB hybrid model beginning Monday, March 8. Students will need to adhere to our masking, social distancing, and hand hygiene protocols. Students must stay home for 10 days if they have any of the following symptoms:
Fever or chills
Cough
Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
Fatigue
Muscle or body aches
Headache
New loss of taste or smell
Sore throat
Congestion or runny nose
Nausea or vomiting
Diarrhea
Siblings of ill students must also remain home. Students may return earlier if they have a negative COVID-19 test.
Secondary schools will be sending out information about an OSPI survey. We encourage all middle and high school students to complete the survey.
Student comments about distance learning
We thought it would be fun to share with families the responses we got from students who answered the question, “What is good about being back in school?”
The bus rides are nice and relaxing
I get to meet my teachers
I learned what the school looks like
Getting to see people and having easy help on work whenever I need it. And I feel like I get more accomplished during my week by being at school.
Something great about being in school has been getting to interact with teachers and other students in person. Although we don’t get the social opportunities we had pre-pandemic, it’s still very nice to see people again.
I love being able to see at least some of my friends on the bus and at school and the teachers are so kind and helpful.
