Director's Details - Week 11

Classical Conversations of Burien

“But we ought always to give thanks to God for you, brothers beloved by the Lord, because God chose you as the first fruits to be saved, through sanctification by the Spirit and belief in the truth. To this he called you through our gospel, so that you may obtain the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ. So then, brothers, stand firm and hold to the traditions that you were taught by us, either by our spoken word or by our letter.” 2 Thessalonians 2:13-15 (ESV)

Another week down...I know I say it every week, but I am truly amazed at how quickly time flies. Only 2 more official community days until we break for Christmas.

This coming week we will enjoy feasting together at lunch/recess. If you haven't signed up to bring something, please check out the link for the perfect potluck below. It's always fun to get a Thanksgiving preview with turkey sandwiches and yummy festive sides and desserts. We'll also be putting together a thankful tree so if you didn't get a chance to write your families thankful leaves, take a moment to do it on Thursday.

Of course, we'll have Thanksgiving off and then, we will reconvene for week 12 on December 3. While that is our official last class before Christmas break, please plan to come party and review with us on December 10. We'll meet from 9:30-11:30 for a Christmas party/mid-year review. This is a pj brunch so bring the kids in their Christmas cozies and bring something breakfast-y to share. (you can come in your pjs too...or at the very least, yoga pants and no makeup!) We'll also have 7 stations of games to review our memory work from weeks 1-12. The games will be easy to implement so the classes will rotate through 10 minute intervals. We'll have an hour of games and plenty of time to fellowship and eat. This is an excellent chance to begin reviewing for potential memory masters, but also a good time to hit that memory work before the holidays waylay our well oiled schedules (it's inevitable!).

Have a great week of learning! I look forward to seeing you all on Thursday.

Geography Map Tracing Challenge!

What? Practice your geography skills by tracing, blob mapping or free hand drawing the world or specific memory work. Bring your work to CC. Mrs. Chang will donate 5 cents for every map turned in. We will donate the final sum to a local charity AND we'll have a party to celebrate our fantastic work!

When? October 29 - February 11

Why? To sharpen our map skills AND to raise money for local international families

**There will be a jar and a folder for tallying maps drawn. Please tally for every 5 cents earned per map and put one corn kernel per 5 cents in the jar. You may submit your maps or keep them. We will also have a map of Africa where we will color in a country for each dollar earned. Please track your own child's progress. If your child is receiving donations from someone besides me, track that with tally marks and corn kernels but keep the funds until I announce that we will be submitting the donation.

Foundations to Challenge Connection - Week 11

Memorization breeds curiosity. This week, your children will memorize a broad outline of the history of the Byzantine Empire. Learning a bit about the cultures that came before us awakens a curiosity about God’s great big world. In Challenge, they will continue weaving these tidbits
into a larger understanding of the tapestry of world history, which will awaken new questions in them. They will continue to encounter these stories through Challenge literature and through world history texts like Francis Schaeffer’s How Should We Then Live? and Daniel Boorstin’s The Discoverers.

Prayer Requests

1. Pray for our community and the growth of CC in our area. Pray for new directors to step up and new communities to begin. Pray for families as they make decisions about educational plans for the next year. We are specifically praying for a director/tutor for Challenge A in Burien.

2. Pray for Beverly Park Baptist Church and Pastor Josh's family, specifically. They had a burglary at the church last week and several guitars were stolen. Some belonged to pastor Josh but he sounded more concerned about one belonging to a young teen musician. Also, Pastor Josh's infant son was hospitalized with RSV and bronchiolitis last week. He was released on Wednesday and is recovering, but I know prayers would be greatly appreciated.
