RRHS Update - Week of 10/10/22
Reminder - No School 10/10/22 - Holiday
PSATs are Wednesday, October 12th
All students in grades 9-11 will take the PSATs on Wednesday. Final testing locations will be emailed to students on Tuesday, October 11. Students should regularly check their emails for all testing information!
Digital PSAT 8/9
All freshmen will take the digital PSAT 8/9 and should bring their charged LCPS device and charger. Failure to bring their Chromebook on test day will result in the student being sent to the Auditorium for a study hall. Students should also bring a snack and water for breaks and a pen or pencil to write with. Freshmen are not permitted to use hand-held calculators – they have the Desmos calculator built into their test. Please use this link for a quick introduction to Desmos.
PSAT/ NMSQT
All 10th and 11th graders will take the PSAT/NMSQT. Students should bring their #2 pencils, calculator, back up batteries, and a snack/water to be kept under their desks for breaks. Students do not need a calculator on the test and loaner calculators are not available on test day. Please use this link for a list of acceptable calculators to use on the PSAT/NMSQT. Students who filled out the Google Form for a loaner calculator will receive their calculators from their proctors on test day.
Seniors
Any 12th graders who attend school on October 12 will have a study hall in the Auditorium. There will also be availability to discuss the college application process with Mrs. Marchante. Teachers will not be available for extra help, and the academic wing will be closed to non-testers.
**If you are planning for a late arrival after PSAT testing (after 2 pm) or early dismissal (After 2 pm) on October 12th, you must indicate this ASAP in ParentVue. Requests in ParentVue after Friday, October 7th, may result in an extended wait time up to an hour at the attendance window. **DO NOT PUT “Release after PSAT” There needs to be an EXACT TIME of 2 pm or later. We cannot dismiss any student early once testing has started. There will be no dismissals prior to 2 pm.
Homecoming Details!
HOMECOMING TICKETS ON SALE OCT. 9!
We are SO excited to host Homecoming on Oct. 22 from 8pm-11pm in the gym. The dance will feature DJ Mario, snacks, a photobooth, games and more. Tickets will be $20 until Oct. 16, after that they will be $25 through Oct. 21. In order to attend the dance, students and guardians must:

- Buy a ticket online HERE, or bring cash/check to lunch any day starting Tuesday, Oct. 11. Each student/guest needs a ticket
- Once you have done the permission slip and paid online, pick up your ticket in the cafeteria.
HOMECOMING REFRESHMENTS NEEDED
Please sign up to donate a refreshment for the dance on Oct. 22. You can sign up to donate water, snacks, candy, or soda here. Every little bit helps make the dance more special for the kids! Food and drinks can be dropped off October 11th-21st in the main office, or on October 22nd in the front foyer of the school from 9:00-1:00.
HOMECOMING TAILGATE- OCT 21- SAVE THE DATE!
On Oct. 21 from 5-7 SCA will be hosting a huge tailgate for the whole school and community. Families, students, siblings, etc. are all invited! The tailgate will feature two food trucks serving fried Oreos, funnel cake, chicken tenders, fries, and homemade ice cream sandwiches. There will also be an inflatable obstacle course for racing, tailgate games, a giant inflatable connect four, sign making, carnival games, and spirit giveaways. There will be fun for the whole family, so don’t miss the tailgate and then head to the Black Out Homecoming Game at 7!
HOMECOMING KICK OFF-CLASS OF CLASSES- OCT. 18
Juniors and seniors will compete against each other in a competitive game of kick ball. The winning team will get spirit points. The game is from 6-7 in the baseball stadium. Tickets are a suggested donation of at least $1. Proceeds will go to the school charity.

Our second spirit week will be Oct. 17-21, and spirit days are listed below. The spirit week will culminate with our Homecoming pep rally on Oct. 21!

Naviance and Common Application Updates!
We have worked with Naviance to resolve the Common App issues some of you were experiencing when trying to submit your applications in Common App. To resolve this you will need to Common App Match. The instructions are in the video link below. If you have created a Common App account you can skip in the video to minute 2:15. This will walk you through the process. We will need all seniors to Common App Match.

The representative of VA FAME program and a Rock Ridge alum will be visiting RRHS to talk to our students on October 21 at 1:45pm. Please, register on Naviance.
The Central VA Federation for Advanced Manufacturing Education (FAME) Advanced Manufacturing Technician (AMT) program at Richard Bland College prepares students for a rewarding career in a high demand field. The Central VA FAME AMT Program combines college coursework with paid, on-the-job training and experience, as well as personal behaviors and core manufacturing skills desired by manufacturers. The mid 9 weeks point or interim date for quarter 1 was 10/3/22. Please contact the teacher directly with questions and concerns about grades to this point.
With the last Day of Marking Period 1 as Thursday 10/28/22 please review what your students has ahead both in their school calendar and other activities. The Fall can be a very busy time for our students.

Step Up Loudoun Youth Competition
Encourages middle and high school youth, across the county to identify an issue in their school, neighborhood or community, create a plan to address that issue, and implement the plan. The goal is to encourage, support and reward the youth of Loudoun County for making positive changes in their own lives and the lives of others. This annual competition runs from early fall through late spring. This is great to have on any resume or college application.
- Identify and address issues around you that you believe could be better
- Develop crucial critical thinking, presentation and communication skills
- Learn planning and execution skills needed to affect community change
- Demonstrate community leadership
- Interact with judges that can include corporate leaders, government officials and members of the media
World Language Credit Through Testing

Students may register for the CTT through the Language Assessment Reporting System (LARS). The link is found under the Student Opportunities portal in LCPSGO. A confirmation ticket will be sent to the student and the parent/ guardian email on file.
Loudoun County Public Schools allows students with the ability to comprehend and communicate in languages other than English, to earn high school credits through State-approved world language assessments. The Credit Through Testing (CTT) exam measures students’ language proficiency in order to award one, two, or three high school world language credits.
2023 Virginia Summer Residential Governor’s Schools
Thursday 10/13 at 3:15pm is a Gov School information meeting. Sign up in Naviance if you wish to attend.
VISUAL AND PERFORMING ARTS STUDENTS:
LCPS students interested in the 2023 Visual and Performing Arts Governor’s School must participate in our local preliminary audition for selection to attend the state level audition. The 2023 LCPS Preliminary Audition will be IN-PERSON, by appointment, on October 31, 2022, at Stone Bridge High School.

The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) opened Oct 1. Please take the time to fill this out even if you believe you will not qualify. Some colleges use the FAFSA as part of scholarship applications to verify information.

School Safety News!
Attached is a diagram for the desired morning parent drop off and student parking flow.
This line of travel to deconflicts student drop off and student parking. We have noticed an increase in parent’s entering the student parking flow creating extra back ups and a potential for incidents.
From Our EL Department
EL Department is in the process of updating/selecting the EL students' assessment accommodations for the year 2022-23. Students qualifying for these accommodations have received a Permission Click email asking for their input by completing a Google form. For students who are learning English, who have English as their second language, or who come from a home where English is not the only language of communication, the state tests may be taken with specific accommodations outlined in the form. We are in the process of documenting this year's accommodations and kindly request your assistance and input. The Google form is due by Oct. 12, 2022.
