Read Across America Week

Read Across America is an initiative of the National Education Association (NEA). Read Across America Day began with the celebration of Dr. Seuss’ birthday on March 2nd. At GLC, we celebrate for the whole week and have our annual Read-Aloud on Friday. We will also have dress-up days on Tuesday-Friday to celebrate famous children's books. The class with the greatest participation each day will be recognized with some Dr. Seuss-themed prizes!

Recycle for Sight Week

One of the many great service projects organized by Lions International is their Recycle for Sight initiative. They help to conserve sight by providing usable eyeglasses to children and adults throughout the world. The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that 120 million people are visually impaired because of far and near-sightedness. Almost all cases can be corrected and normal vision can be restored with eyeglasses, contact lenses or refractive surgery. The lack of eyeglasses denies children and adults opportunities for education, employment, and a better quality of life.

Each year, GLC students and families collect eyeglasses during Read Across America week and donate them to a Lions Eyeglass Recycling Center. Students may bring used eyeglasses to the front office to donate. Thank you for helping our community both near and far!

Track & Field is back!

Track & Field, for grades 3-6, begins this week. This will be our first Track & Field practice in two years, and we are very excited! Practices will be from 3:15-4:30 on most Tuesdays and Thursdays. Please ensure students are picked up on time each day. Thank you!

Panda Express Fundraiser!

Thanks to all of our GLC families and supporters who were able to support our PTSA fundraiser at Panda Express last week. We heard there was a great turnout!

Expanding access to Transitional Kindergarten

For the 2022-23 school year, the state of California is expanding access to transitional kindergarten programs. Students who will turn five by February 2nd, 2023, are eligible to enroll in universal transitional kindergarten (UTK). This is a new optional grade that precedes Kindergarten. Parents may opt to enroll their child in preschool or UTK. If you have a child who will turn 5 by 2/2/23 and would like her/him to attend GLC, please complete an Enrollment Requiest Form. More information about GLC's UTK program to come soon!

Homework Help!

The VUSD After-hours Academic Assistance (AAA) program is available to all VUSD students grades K-12 at no charge, four evenings a week. Homework assistance is led by certificated VUSD teachers. For more information and to access the tutoring Zoom links, visit:
