Read Across America Week
Read Across America is an initiative of the National Education Association (NEA). Read Across America Day began with the celebration of Dr. Seuss’ birthday on March 2nd. At GLC, we celebrate for the whole week and have our annual Read-Aloud on Friday. We will also have dress-up days on Tuesday-Friday to celebrate famous children's books. The class with the greatest participation each day will be recognized with some Dr. Seuss-themed prizes!
Recycle for Sight Week
One of the many great service projects organized by Lions International is their Recycle for Sight initiative. They help to conserve sight by providing usable eyeglasses to children and adults throughout the world. The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that 120 million people are visually impaired because of far and near-sightedness. Almost all cases can be corrected and normal vision can be restored with eyeglasses, contact lenses or refractive surgery. The lack of eyeglasses denies children and adults opportunities for education, employment, and a better quality of life.
Each year, GLC students and families collect eyeglasses during Read Across America week and donate them to a Lions Eyeglass Recycling Center. Students may bring used eyeglasses to the front office to donate. Thank you for helping our community both near and far!
