Week of 2-11-19
Can we make it full week before break?
One week until mid-winter break! Valentine's Day on a Thursday. Conferences are done. NWEA is done. WIDA will be done very soon. The big question: will we have a full week of school for the first time in over 3 weeks?
Sorry about the staff meeting mix up last Tuesday. It shows just how crazy Tuesday was last week. I will bump our Early Literacy Essential 3 training into our March staff meeting.
Please see information about 2 hours of DPPD online training below. These are the first of 9 hours of online DPPD required by the state of Michigan this year. When completed, print any certificate to keep for your own DPPD records.
We have 5 guests from the NAEP in our building this morning to administer the NAEP to our 4th grade student. Thank you all for your flexibility and patience as our 4th graders' day is rearranged for this opportunity to show American what Morgan Elementary in Michigan can do! Our guests will be in the computer lab for the majority of the day, but also using the lounge area.
If you are having a Valentine celebration/activity in your classroom this week that will involved parent volunteers, please let Melissa know the names of parents coming and what day so she can have name tags ready at sign in.
Have a great week!
Sue

UCS On-the-Job Injury Procedures
Reporting: If an employee incurs an on the job injury, the supervisor, supervisor’s designee or employee him/herself is to promptly contact Human Resources for guidance. A 911-emergency contact takes priority before calling Human Resources if the injury is believed to be life-threatening.
After Hours Reporting: In the event an injury occurs outside of Human Resources business hours, the district Central Control Management Service must be immediately contacted at 586.797.7171. A 911 emergency contact takes priority before calling CCMS if the injury is believed to be life threatening.
Treatment: Utica Community Schools on the job injury protocols require injured personnel to initially report to an approved occupational health and treatment center for non-life threatening injuries. District approved occupational health and treatment centers for 2019 are:
- Concentra Urgent Care & Occupational Health: 39333 Van Dyke in Sterling Heights
- Ascension Occupational Health (was St. John): 27351 Dequindre in Madison Heights
ER Treatment: In the event an employee must be first treated in an emergency room, a request should be made for triage/intake to contact UCS Human Resources so appropriate authorizations are provided from the onset. District approved emergency room for work-related injury is as follows:
· Macomb-Oakland Ascension Hospital & ER (Warren Campus): 11800 East 12 Mile Rd. Warren
· McLaren Macomb Hospital & ER (was Mt. Clemens General): 1000 Harrington Mt Clemens
· Any other Emergency Room: as dictated by severity of injury and travel time
Follow-Up: The treating physician(s) at district approved occupational health centers will provide direction if follow-up treatment is necessary. It is imperative that recommendation for specific follow up be adhered to. If an employee is initially treated as an emergency room patient, a follow up to one of the approved occupational health centers will be required.
Utica Community Schools Work Related Injury
Department of Human Resources 1.586.797.1139
Workers’ Compensation Notice: All claims for Workers’ Compensation are reviewed to ensure the employee has followed timely initial treatment protocols, follow-up recommendations, timelines, documentations and other required compliances. An employee sustaining a work-related injury risks forfeiture of Worker’s Compensation benefits should any non compliance be determined. Seeking of personal and/or private physician care that has not been pre approved and/or authorized by the district or the district’s acting health care agent(s) is interpreted as non compliance.
Administrative Recording: In addition to recording work-related injuries on building OSHA documentation, employee injuries must also be recorded on a UCS Employee Report of Injury form. An Employee Report of Injury form is to be completed any time an employee is injured on the job; regardless whether medical attention is sought. For assistance in completing documentation, contact Theresa Learnihan (Ext. 1139) in Human Resources.
