Science
Math
In math, students began their writing piece this week. They were asked to choose a career that they were interested in and find different ways they will need to use math in order to complete their day to day tasks. Students brainstormed different jobs and came up with facts and details that involved ratios, statistics, geometry, and measurement to name a few. They had all week to complete this paper, and final copies should have been submitted today! Please continue remind your child to check their Skyward so they stay up to date on their assignments. All assignments, excluding tests, can be redone for a better grade!
Reading
This week in reading we have been working on writing an opinion essay. Students have selected a topic and formed an opinion on that topic with reasons to support their opinion. They have typed and shared their final drafts with me. I will grade them and post grades by early next week. Also, we have finished our Who Was novels. Students worked in small groups discussing these books with others as we progressed through the books. At the end of the novel, students started novel projects based on their interest. We will share the new information we learned next week. All AR goals need to be met by Wednesday, May 24th.
Social Studies
We have been learning and reviewing for the M-Step, which the students took this past Tuesday. The students have been watching Liberty’s Kids during this times as well, but there are many more exciting episodes we will not get to this year in class. However, the videos are online through YouTube and can be watched at home! Now that the test is over we will continue the chapter on the U.S. Constitution, then start working on our Presidential Reports. The students have already been learning fun facts on past presidents, so you may want to ask your child what they have found interesting!

HOMEWORK POLICY
In order to try and help your child become more responsible before they enter 6th and 7th grade, we have adopted a new homework/missing work policy. Your child will be given homework on a regular basis week to week. They know all the due dates for all of their assigned work. If they happen to not turn in an assignment, they will be notified right away and reminded to do so. They also have access to their own Skyward account where they can check their grades daily. Every other Friday afternoon, we will have a homework help club where students can bring all of their missing work and work solely on getting it completed and turned in. Whatever they do not finish will be homework over the weekend and must be turned in on Monday. Anything that is not turned in from those previous two weeks will no longer be accepted and automatically turn into a zero. Your child is aware of this homework policy, but we encourage you to talk with your child as well and explain the importance of getting your work turned in on a timely manner.
Thank you!
