After three years on the run, Guy Kaiser, 27, was caught by town police who found him in the hospital for stress-induced cardiomyopathy, using a fake identity with the name Marcus Bruto. The theft apologized, agreeing it "all got out of hand," but understands that does not make up for the estimated $200,000 stolen in early 2010. We were able to get an exclusive interview with him on Wednesday.
Kaiser grew up in a cramped home with many siblings, never getting the acknowledgment he sought. When asked about his childhood life, Kaiser said, "My childhood was filled with the ever-present yearn for my parent's attention. I think that is what caused me to do what I did..." Kaiser continued, "The more money I stole, the more power I knew I had. When my face made it on the news, that what when I knew my ambition got out of hand... I don't want to make excuses for my irreversible actions, I just want to explain why I did the things I did."
At this time, I was sitting around with many of my colleagues from the newspaper and we were all stunned. When asked if he regretted his actions, Kaiser promptly responded, "I regret my actions fully, and I regretted my actions right away, but I got overwhelmed. I regret the anxiety I felt for the past 3 years. I regret hurting everyone I scammed and myself." Kaiser also spoke about his health, which he has been quiet about until this point. "The tole my actions had on my health is evident. I'm only 27 and I already have heart problems because of all the stress. If I was born without integrity or morals maybe this wouldn't gave happened, but the anxiety I felt from betraying myself and my morals ruined me and I only have myself to blame. My ambition took over my life at that time." Kaiser stopped with those heartfelt words. Kaiser awaits his course case to find out his sentence, which is scheduled to be held on Monday.
