The Scholastic Book Fair is open Monday - Thursday this week. Students will attend with their classes during the week. Parents may shop during the school day, after school until 3:15, and on conference day. There are so many wonderful books!
Conferences are this Thursday, November 17th, from 8 AM - 4:30 PM. Report cards will be given out at conferences. Please go to your child's teacher's Bloomz page for conference sign-ups. It is a remote learning day for scholars. We DO have childcare available for no additional charge from 6:30 AM - 5:15 PM. Students will do their work at childcare, enjoy breakfast, lunch (Students may bring a lunch), afternoon snack, and have fun activities with their friends. Students do not need to wear uniforms on 11/17. Use this form to sign up.
We are now getting price quotes for the different playscapes for Marcy Park. The January fundraiser will be dedicated to raising funds for the playscape. Playscapes and outdoor play are important to student growth and development.
We have added many clubs after school to complement instruction during the day. Anyone attending a club after school should bring a snack (no nuts).
Mondays: Chess Club - Grades 3-8 - some spots still available. Sign up here
Tuesdays: Fight Like a Girl - Grades 4-8 girls only - full
Tuesdays: STEM Science - Grades 5 & 6
Tuesdays: Basketball - Grades 5-8 $40 a player/physicals needed.
Wednesdays: Dance - extended day students only
In January, we will add a newspaper/podcasting club for our 5-8 grades and a Lego and Literature club for our K-2 scholars. We also hope to add a cooking club.
Please review your family's FACTS account or call the business office (x102 or X103) for clarity.
Featured Families: Would you like to be a St. Benedict the African Featured Friday Family? Complete this form! We love spotlighting our families and will even offer 1 PAW for participating!
Empower Illinois is sponsoring a trip to Springfield on 12/1 to speak with our legislators regarding the need to keep the tax credit scholarship legislation in place. We have over 130 children with Tax Credit scholarships. If you can attend - there is a bus and lunch is included, please let me know. This program is so important for our families and our school. We will credit some PAWS for attending this trip.
As a reminder, scholars must be in their seats at 7:45 AM to be on time. If you are running late, please call the office.
Please continue to be courteous and kind at drop-off and pick-up. A few extra minutes won't hurt, and our children's safety is at stake.
All scholars enter the school at door 1. For extended-day families, pick-up is from door 2 after 3:30.
Thank you for choosing the Academy of St. Benedict the African for your family. Let's make this a great week of learning!
I wish you and your families a very happy and blessed Thanksgiving.
Our next Family Update will be emailed on 11/27 as school resumes on the 28th following Thanksgiving break.
Warmly,
Mrs. Farrand

Uniforms
This is required, not suggested. Those failing to follow the stated uniform will be given the proper items to wear.
Please help us build our community by having your child/ren wear the proper clothing daily.
Regular day:
- Navy blue slacks, skort, or jumper
- Light blue polo shirt with the school logo or name
- gym shoes with white, black, or blue socks or tights - no leggings
- School hoodie, gym sweatshirt, or plain (no brand logos) navy blue sweater
Gym or Dance day:
- Gym uniform
- Light blue school t-shirt with either logo or tiger
- Black sweatpants with the school logo (plain black (no brand logos showing) sweatpants will work)
- School hoodie or gym sweatshirt
Only plain navy sweaters, school hoodies, or school gym sweatshirts may be worn during the day over the polo.
The gym uniform must be purchased at Martinellis 3517 W. 95th, Evergreen Park.
The school has the polo ($15) and the school hoodie ($20 cash/$23 card). We have a limited supply of extra Kind shirts available for $5. Cash only, please, for those shirts. Please label all hoodies and sweatshirts.
Also, the children will be asked to remove their jewelry if wearing any. It's a distraction, against our dress code, and creates safety concerns. All boys should remove their earrings before coming to school. Our dress code regarding jewelry and nail polish aligns with all other Catholic Schools in our council.
In choosing our school, you agree to follow the uniform policy.
