Welcome Back Letter 2019
A MESSAGE FROM MRS. RICHARDS
Dear Winn Families and Students,
On behalf of all the staff, I would like to welcome you to Winn Elementary! We are excited to discover your talents and interests as we learn together. Our connection to our school goes beyond the walls of this school. It means we support and encourage one another; we communicate with one another; we value unique strengths of one another. In short, we make a difference. This is our community and we do everything a kid needs!
At Winn, we are committed to creating an environment where each member of our school community has a deep sense of pride in the work we do together. It is our goal for students to be excited to arrive to school each day, and empowered to explore their passions in learning. We will continue to rely on strong student, staff, and family partnerships to foster this environment. We want our students to have all the tools and resources needed to do great things!
As we prepare for the hustle and bustle of the start of our school year, please take a moment to read through our Winn Elementary Student Handbook (Kindergarten will get a copy of the document their first week of school). This handbook will provide you with all of the important information you will need to make this year successful.
Connecting with you is important to us. As a result, we have many ways to share the latest and greatest news at Winn Elementary including:
Our School Website: Here you can find information such: the live feed (which is like a blog), staff emails, important links for school, and links to our school newsletter.
Mrs. Richard's E-Newsletter: In this newsletter, I will provide you with highlights from our week, information on upcoming events, and a student spotlight section to showcase the amazing leadership of our students.
Like us on Facebook: Simply go to the Winn Elementary page to see current pictures and information. Don't forget "Tucked in Tuesday's" for a live Facebook event each week!
The Shepherd Schools App: Download the Shepherd Schools App to your mobile device for the most up-to date information on Winn Elementary and our school district. Signing up is quick, easy, and free!
I truly believe that by discovering the unique talents we all bring to our community and through connecting with one another, we will make a tremendous difference in the lives of our kids! The power of our partnership is essential for the support, growth, and learning of our children. With this in mind, please do not hesitate to contact us with thoughts or questions.
I hope you enjoy the last few days of summer. This is going to be an amazing year!

A Little Bit About Me...
I have lived in Mt. Pleasant for the past 18 years. My first daughter, Emily, is a senior at Michigan State University. Emily is studying to be a special education teacher. My second daughter, Elizabeth, is a senior at Mt. Pleasant High School. She will be going to Michigan State University to study law. My husband, Pat, is an attorney at Gray, Sowle, & Iacco. I also have an Airedale Terrier named, Ellie. We are passionate Spartan fans at my house! Go Green!
This is my 29th year in education. I graduated from Michigan State University with a degree in both regular and special education. I have a Master's Degree from Western University in Reading. I will be receiving my second master's degree in Educational Leadership from Central Michigan University this spring. As a fun note, we will have THREE graduations this Spring! Emily will be receiving her BA from Michigan State, Elizabeth will be graduating high school, and I will be getting my MA from Central! I have taught: Reading Recovery, Title 1, special education resource room, self-contained Autistic Impaired, and general education (3rd, 4th grade). I love learning and growing as a teacher. I am looking forward to getting a chance to be a part of your child's learning here at Winn!
