Miss K's Classroom Newsletter

Week of September 12 - September 16

Do you hear voices in your head?

No, you're not crazy! That's just your "Reader Voice" speaking! This week we learned all about our reader voice and how it helps us understand the text better. Our reader voice helps us interact with the text by asking questions, forming predictions, making connections, etc.

Arrays Away!

This week we also learned about how we can use arrays to help us with our multiplication. We discussed the difference between a "row" and "column" and came up with ways to remember the difference. We can always remember that rows go across because we have to "row, row, row the boat ACROSS the pond" and the word column has an L right in the middle of it to help remind us that columns are long and move up and down.

R.D.W. - Read, Draw, Write!

RDW is the strategy we have been using this week to help us solve math word problems. R stands for "read the problem" and circle important information, D stands for "draw a picture" and W stands for "write the equation". We broke off into groups to see if we could use this strategy together and then present it to the class!

"Doo-dee-doo unto otters as you would have otters doo-dee-doo unto you"

We have been working really hard to follow our essential agreements. By following our essential agreements, we ensure that we are all treated positively and that we have a welcoming, loving, and caring classroom community! We have spent a lot of time talking about rules, laws, and consequences this week and these read aloud books helped us see how sometimes the way we treat each other comes with consequences also. So we should always strive to treat others the way we want to be treated (the golden rule!)

Thank you!

A big thank you to all of the families who came to Open House. I know we were all very excited to have you visit our classroom. We hope you learned a thing or two about our classroom routines and what we have been working on so far!

If you did not get the chance to sign up for a parent teacher conference, please be sure to email me so we can get that set up. Have a great weekend!
