Notes from the Principal
Dear West Family,
I hope you are looking forward to an amazing weekend. I cannot thank you enough and your students for the amazing notes, high fives, pictures, candy etc.…I received this week. Thank you to the PTC team for coordinating a very fun week of activities. I feel very fortunate to work in such an amazing school with incredible staff and such supportive families. Principal Week was so fun!
West is looking forward to the Halloween parties on Monday. Please make sure to check with the teacher of your child to confirm time and expectations for the festivities. Thank you.
BASE classes are enrolling now for the next session, please make sure to check out the sign up in the newsletter. Please be aware of the transportation changes.
Finally, just a friendly reminder that we start school at 8:15am. Please make sure to drop off your child(ren) in a timely manner, so that they are maximizing their learning opportunities. Students are marked tardy when they do not arrive in their classes on time. I apologize that we have so many cars dropping off in the mornings, please allow yourself time to arrive when school begins.
West is…
Best,
Tony
Nurse's Corner
- Please remember that you cannot send medicine to school with a student, regardless of it is OTC or prescription. A Northview permission form for medication at school must be filled out before office staff can give it to the student.
- A fever is a temperature greater than 100.4F (according to the CDC). Do not send your child to school for 24 hours after the fever has broken and without the use of fever-reducing medication. A low grade fever is 99.0 - 100.3F. If your child is not feeling well enough to attend school, please keep them home.
- Although lice is not a communicable disease, it can be a nuance. As a parent, it is your responsibility to check and remove lice and nits from your child's hair. Please click here for the KCHD fact sheet.
- For the younger children, it is a great idea to keep an extra pair of underwear and pants in a ziploc bag in the bottom of their backpack (accidents happen).
- Continue to practice good hand and cough hygiene with your children.

Winter 1 BASE Classes
**Special BASE Notes**
BASE Transportation ALERT: Due to staffing within our transportation department, we are no longer able to offer transportation for the BASE program. Please arrange for your child to be picked up at the time of their class dismissal.
Special circumstances: If your child has any special needs or dietary concerns please be sure to let your building coordinator know as soon as you register so any necessary arrangement can be made.
DHHS students please use this link to request an interpreter.
Photographing students: We will use pictures of registrants in our publications. If you prefer your student is not photographed, please email jvanslooten@nvps.net with that request prior to your child's class starting.
Late Pick-ups Policy: Thank you for your promptness in picking up your child at the time their class concludes. When late pick ups occur it can be difficult for our coordinators and instructors to stay late. For this reason we have had to instill the following policy for late pick ups.
- One late pick up - Students will receive a "pass"....We realize parents have busy lives and may run late from time to time.
- Two late pickups - Removal from the class roster. Students may sign up for another session later in the year.
A Mindful Moment
What a joy it has been to be out in classrooms for lessons this month! So exciting to meet a new group of students and see familiar faces, taller and more mature. This month, we’re working to notice the similarities and differences among the people in our lives and to treat others with acceptance. We’re also starting to add breathing strategies to our toolbox. Ask your student to teach you their favorite breath at home! Look for more resources and activities available in your building during conferences. If you haven’t checked out the available online resources, please visit the Northview Mindfulness and SEL website!
Sending you calm,
Mrs. Eyestone
