Thompson Friday Forecast

April 18, 2019 - Thursday Edition

From the Principal...Steve Morrill

Reminder that there will be no school for students tomorrow, Friday, April 19th for a School Improvement Day.

Earlier in the year, students, staff and parents voted to determine our Thompson Guidelines for Success. Together we determined that Respect, Responsibility, Teamwork, Kindness, and Perseverance represented the attributes our students need in order to be successful at Thompson and beyond. On Wednesday afternoon we held two different assemblies to celebrate these Guidelines for Success and our Thunder Way. These assemblies were a time to celebrate all that we have accomplished!

The 6th and 7th graders gathered in the 6th grade gym to watch skits performed by classmates that represented our Guidelines for Success. Our students did an amazing job showcasing their talents and highlighting the attributes! The 8th graders were entertained by our Thompson Improv Club who created short skits that also highlighted the Guidelines for Success. Both assemblies included musical entertainment by our Jazz band and a video compilation of students and staff sharing what makes Thompson a great place. The assemblies truly were a celebration of the climate and positive culture that we have built at Thompson!

A special thanks to John Blank for sharing his Jazz band, Jessica Beauchamp and her AVID students for creating the video describing what makes Thompson great, Sandy Pogge and Laura Franklin for lending us their Improv students, and all of our student skit volunteers! It is wonderful to see our students and staff representing our Guidelines for Success and following the Thunder Way!

Enjoy your long weekend!

A reminder from the school nurse…

State legislation requires that all Illinois children in sixth grade have a dental examination. A licensed dentist must perform the examination and he or she shall sign the form. Dental offices should have the form available but it is available online at under Departments, then Health Services, then “Health Documents and Forms”. Each child must present proof of a dental examination by a dentist prior to May 15, 2019. The exam must be dated within 18 months prior to May 15, 2019. If your child has had an exam already, you can ask your dentist to complete the form for the exam.

The Illinois Department of Public Health has established a waiver for children who show undue burden or lack of access to a dentist. Parents or legal guardians who object to the dental examinations on religious grounds shall present to the school a signed, detailed statement of the objection.

The deadline is quickly approaching! Please submit this if you have not already done so.
