Lutherville Lab Report
What's gone down & what's coming up at the leopards' lair.
September 16th, 2022
Our deep gratitude to all the families who packed the gym and our hallways to join us for Back to School Night on Tuesday! We thank you for your partnership and were glad to connect.
Much of the school presentation was captured in the LL At-A-Glance document you received at Sneak-A-Peak from your child's teacher. It is attached again for your reference. But another central focus was on our incredibly supportive PTA! If you missed the PTA Presentation, a separate email capturing their efforts to support our school -- and big and small ways that you could help -- was sent home earlier today. Please read it and consider being a part of this organization that serves our school so well!
This week, I enjoyed seeing our students fully into their routines and getting into deeper learning. We also enjoyed a visit from our Executive Director, Steve Bender. Mr. Bender noted how impressed he was with our instruction, our print-rich learning environment, positive climate and caring interactions with students, and efforts to partner with our community to continuously improve our school. Sure sounds like Lutherville to me. :)
This week we also put our refreshed Outdoor Classroom to use! It's a beautiful space where our 5th graders were able to engage in some deep reading and thinking. Pictures below.
Our staff started planning in earnest for Fall Family Night on October 11th! There will be performances, student work displays, demonstrations, and central to the night will be a multi-cultural fair! If you'd like to share your family's culture, we'd love to have you. Next week's Lab Report will have more details!
We are excited to share that we've been afforded the opportunity to offer a full slate of student clubs this year! Please see information below and the offerings attachment for more information.
You may have recently seen that BCPS has arranged for student test kits for COVID-19 to be provided for every student. These arrived Friday afternoon and will be distributed to students on Monday at dismissal to go home with students.
Have a great weekend, Lutherville families.
In Partnership,
-Mr. McComb

Lutherville Lab Mission and Vision
Mission: Lutherville Laboratory is an engaged, diverse, and connected community, united in our commitment to nurture in every child harmony and respect in themselves, with others, and for the world around us, thus empowering children with a lasting foundation to pursue excellence in future endeavors.
Vision: Our vision of Lutherville Lab is a nurturing school full of joy, community, and achievement. Students at Lutherville feel known and supported to grow through caring relationships with peers and adults. Students are engaged and inquisitive, pursuing understanding and growing their skills in an environment that is safe, warm, and inclusive. Students learn to productively struggle to grow their academic skills and respond mindfully to others and restore relationships when encountering differences.
Our students are supported by a compassionate, committed, and reflective staff, who provide excellent instruction for every child. Staff are encouraged as experts in student learning and creative problem-solving to build confidence, remove barriers, and create opportunities and outlets for all students to grow and thrive. We partner with an involved community to jointly develop joyful, inclusive community events and school initiatives that support and encourage our students.
Through this collaborative school family, children develop the curiosity, care, skills, and tenacity to serve as citizen scientists – educated and empowered to make a difference in the world.
Student Clubs!
This is our list of intended club offerings. It is subject to sufficient student interest and continued staff availability.
If you would like to register your child for a given club, please email the club sponsors to get on their club mailing list. Email addresses can be found in the Club Offerings attachment.
Please note that there is not an Activity Bus this year. The bus was funded by Re-engagement Funding from COVID relief funds that was provided for last school year. If transportation is a barrier for your child's participation, we encourage you to pursue rideshare/car-pooling with other families in the club.
