Husky Happenings October
Working Together to Ensure Promise to Purpose
Husky Parents,
October has arrived already!!! We have been in school for 24 days, and all classes are in full swing. I wish to take this opportunity to thank our Huskies, their parents, and our faculty and staff members for working together as a team, in true Husky style, for yet another outstanding opening of the school year.
We have such an exceptional school, and we take great pride in helping each of our Huskies reach his/her highest potential. Having high expectations at Metzler for each student is the norm, not the exception. It was wonderful to see so many families at Open House. You, as parents, are to be commended for working in partnership with Metzler's teachers toward a shared goal. Our students benefit greatly by knowing that this partnership exists.
Mrs. Vaglienty, Mrs. Taylor, and I are eager to greet each of our Huskies in each morning as they proceed to their classrooms. We are very committed to giving them a very positive start to each day. In addition, we have numerous opportunities to complement our Huskies on their academic performance, social skills, and for demonstrating our effective learner qualities throughout the day; they truly provide us with great joy.
Easy is Boring. Embrace More Challenge.
Effective learners are students who embrace challenge, set goals, and self-reflect. They are curious, persistent, and collaborative. Please recognize when your child exhibits these qualities at home. Ask your child to explain the Learning Pit and why being in the pit is a good thing! Then tell them about a time when you were learning something new and found yourself in the pit. You may have used some of the effective learner strategies above to get yourself out of the pit.
Wonder what it would be like to volunteer for Watch D.O.G.S. at Metzler? Take a look at the video below.

Campus Safety
Visitors
The safety of our students is a primary concern for us. All exterior doors (except the main front doors) are kept locked during school hours. You are encouraged to visit with us; however, in order to ensure maximum protection for your children, all visitors are required to present ID prior to entering the building, sign in at the office, present a driver’s license which will be scanned through V-Soft. At this point you will be provided and a “Visitor” tag. This visitor tag must be visible at all times during your visit. The tag will indicate the location of your visit. If you need to go to more than one area in the building, those locations need to be listed on your visitor's badge. Faculty and staff have been instructed to escort persons without an ID to return to the front office to obtain one. Please remember that these procedures are in place for the safety of our students and staff.
Safety Drills
In October we will conduct drills for fire and intruder emergencies. Be sure to talk to your child about the importance of following Metzler staff member’s directions immediately. Parent flyer HERE.
Please assist us by making sure that your contact information is current. If you have not followed Metzler on Twitter (@MetzlerKISD) or joined the Metzler Remind101 group, please do so. Both platforms make communication quicker and more fluid. Please be sure to download the new KISD app for your phone.
We hope you will find this knowledge of our procedures to be reassuring. If you have any
questions regarding any of these drills or other safety concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact me directly at 832-484-7950.
Car Riders
Reminders below about MORNING CARPOOL:
- There are only two lanes open in the morning. The lane closest to the porch is for anyone in the morning not just kindergartners.
- The second lane will "open" when the entire staff duty team arrives. We want to make sure all our Huskies are safe and we need all the staff out there to ensure safety.
You may have noticed the music playing for morning drop-off. Each month will have a different theme. October is Hispanic Heritage month and Italian American month.

From the Library
Students at Metzler have the opportunity to become members of the Husky Birthday Book Club. Parents, family and friends may celebrate and honor a student by choosing a book from the “Husky Books” to be added to the Metzler library for all to enjoy. A bookplate with the child’s name and the special occasion will be placed in the book, and a presentation will be made in the child’s class. The cost for a “Husky Book” is $15.00. Checks can be made to Metzler Elementary. Please contact Pat Mohalley at 832-484-7952 or pmohalley@kleinisd.net to arrange a presentation. This is a wonderful way to celebrate a special occasion such as a birthday, good grades, a new sibling, or an award while adding to our Metzler library collection!
