PARENT PORTAL SUPPORT!
This is where attendance, grades, and other pertinent information will be stored for the duration of you child's high school career.
Dear Thompson School District/Mountain View HS Families,
We thank you and your family for being our valued partners as we work together to educate the children in our district. Thompson School District values input from our community – and we need to hear from your child or children!
In order to learn more about student experiences at school, we will be asking students in grades 3-12 to participate in an online survey. The survey content will ask students to self-reflect on emotion regulation, social awareness, growth mindset, perseverance, sense of belonging, school safety, and teacher-student relationships.
Your child will be invited to participate in this survey online during regular school hours during the week of November 8, 2021. When the survey is introduced, students will be invited to participate in the survey, as well as informed that they do not have to answer any questions that they do not wish to answer. The survey shouldn’t take more than 20-30 minutes to complete. Please click on these links for survey questions: Grades 3-5 Sample SEL Competencies Survey, Grades 6-12 Sample SEL Competencies Survey, Grades 3-5 Sample Supports & Environments Survey, Grades 6-12 Sample Supports & Environments Survey
Student responses to the survey will be confidential. We are partnering with a third-party vendor who has signed the district’s Data Privacy Agreement to ensure all required online encryption protocols are followed. The section of the survey regarding your child's feedback on their school is confidential, and staff will NOT know how your student responded individually. The section of the survey regarding your child's needs for support in growing their own social emotional skills is handled differently; while your child's teacher cannot see individual answers, they will be able to see your child's needs by topic (e.g., sense of belonging) to be able to support them appropriately.
Please notify us if you would like your child to opt out of taking the surveys by filling in your name and your child’s name below and returning it to school by November 8, 2021.
If you have any questions about the survey administration, please don’t hesitate to contact us at jane.harmon@tsd.org.
Sincerely,
Jane Harmon, MVHS Principal

Winter Sports Parent Meeting
Where: Mountain View High School Auditorium
When: November 29, 2021 7-8:30 pm
Parents & Guardians, please plan to attend this mandatory meeting to gather key information about your son or daughter's sport for the winter. We will begin with a word from Athletic Director, Lauren Anderson, and then break out into groups by sport to hear from the coaches. We look forward to seeing you there!
Winter Sports Registration Is Open!
Winter sports athletes please remember to complete Athletic Registration!
Athletes that have not competed in sports yet this year will need to complete paperwork online through Planet HS, upload an up-to-date Physical Exam Form onto their PlanetHS account, and pay their Athletic Fees. Athletes who competed in Fall Sports simply need to pay winter sport Athletic Fees and make sure all information on Planet HS is accurate.
Winter Sports begin on November 15th, so be on the lookout for more information on practices and tryouts and please be sure to have registration done before that!
Go Mountain Lions!
Boys Basketball Tryouts on November 15-17!
9th Grade: 4:15-5:30 in small gym
10th Grade: 5:30-6:45 in small gym
11th and 12th Grade: 6:15-8:15 in large gym
Players trying out should plan on attending each day at their scheduled time.
All players must have Athletic Registration completed in order to try out. Visit the Athletics Website for links and information on Athletic Registration
https://mvhsathletics.org/main/otherad/contentID/53051833.
Players will know if they made the team at the conclusion of try-outs on Wednesday, November 17. There may be some movement of players between levels during the season, but the core players will remain the same. We will have four teams (D, C, JV, and Varsity). We are anticipating a large number of players trying out, so please make sure you are ready to try-out the first day. In other words, have your registration with the school complete, come into try-outs ready to compete, learn, and being in shape will help as well. This is a big commitment time wise and effort wise. We will practice during Thanksgiving break and Winter break. Typically, practices will be two hours in length and six days a week. We share gym space with the girls program, so there will be late practices (start at 6:15) for all levels.
Please contact Coach Tony Barnett (tony.barnett@tsd.org) for questions regarding tryouts or practices. Contact Athletic Secretary Julieta Marner (julieta.marner@tsd.org) for questions regarding Athletic Registration.

District Advisory & Accountability Committee (DAAC) Meeting

What is DAAC?
Both state and federal accountability place great emphasis on including families within the accountability process. While state statute requires the formation of accountability committees, these committees can be activated to meet many of the ESSA expectations as well (e.g., stakeholder engagement in the planning and implementation process under school improvement). Regardless of the structure, parents are expected to engage in meaningful consultation in accountability and improvement planning. Furthermore, schools and districts are expected to report school data and document plans in a transparent manner. DAACs must consist of the following, at a minimum:
1) Three parents of students enrolled in the district
2) One teacher employed by the district
3) One school administrator employed by the district
4) One person involved in business in the community within district boundaries.
DAACs must select one of their parent representatives to serve as chair or co-chair. Local school boards will establish the length of the term for DAAC chair/co-chairs. To be consistent with SAC responsibilities, DAACs shall meet at least quarterly.
