MENTAL HEALTH MONDAY
This week, please enjoy High School East CAP Student Representative’s Jordyn Mizrachi’s morning announcement.
Social Anxiety often goes unnoticed. It’s more than just being shy; it's feeling physically sick before, during, and after social interactions, having an intense fear of what other people think of you, being very self-conscious in front of others, constantly feeling awkward, not being able to maintain eye contact, etc. If these describe you, you may feel hopeless, like there’s nothing you can do; however, changing your mentality is a step in the right direction. Identify your negative thoughts and fears, maybe you think to yourself, “People will think I’m stupid” or “I know I’ll end up looking like a fool.” Challenge those thoughts and focus on your social skills that need improvement. Remember to be patient with yourself and others; you never truly know what’s going on in another person’s head.
If you need to talk to someone about how you’re feeling, 2NDFLOOR is a confidential and anonymous helpline for New Jersey's youth. They are here to help you find solutions to the problems that you face at home, at school, or at play. If you need to talk about an issue or problem that you are facing call or text 888-222-2228.
