Maillet's Kindergarten Newsletter

Week Of June 1st

Highlights from last week....

In Reader's Workshop, we worked on how readers think while they read. We used our schema as we read our books. The children worked on making text to self connections while they read. We also read Little Red Riding Hood this week with a focus on text to text connections and retelling as we read different versions of the fairy tale.

In phonics, we focused on letter formations, sentence structure, short vowels, building words and nonsense words.

In Math, we continued to build teen numbers. We used our Rekenrek and ten frames to help the children visualize what a teen number looks like.

In Science, we continued our unit on insects and bugs. We read several non fiction books and participated in several activities to help us understand the concept.

In Social Studies, we discussed Memorial Day and what it means to us. We participated in our Memorial Day program, which was on Friday, May 22nd at 2pm.

In our Second Step program, we continued to learn about our own feelings and how they can change.
