Dear Parents,

What a fun filled week we had; from receiving our Pen Pal letters to tasting pickles in the name of math and science! Being a scientist is not just fun, it causes you to move beyond your comfort zone sometimes. I had many students that said they disliked pickles; yet they overcame their personal likes and licked the pickles in the name of science. What courage!

Reading our Pen Pal letters ; )

Like smell-a-vision...I wish you could feel the excitement the kids shared!

Look at us write!

Pen Pals affords us a real world experience in writing. It was great to see students make connections with their pen pals and desire to write back immediately. True, I had a few that have not made connections yet, but we will get there!

No spelling words this week.

We love to read! #makesmehappy

Math

In Math, we will finish our graphing unit. We will also be reviewing money and financial literacy to prepare for our 4th quarter math test..

Graphing our favorite pickle... or not so favorite

Helpful lInks for spelling, reading and math practice.

Science

In Science, to conclude our animal research project, we will be dissecting a squid. Yes, a real squid! It is a great way for students to examine up close the adaptations it uses to survive in its environment.

Can your child guess the adaptation that is most notable in this video?

Researching and coloring habitats

Create a Shoebox Habitat Challenge (Optional)

Habitat Diorama

Does your child have an active imagination? Kids brains are always making creative new connections, which aids in a child's natural ability to come up with stories. Have your child create a shoebox diorama on the animal they are researching and help your child expand his/her learning from school as they explore their budding creative prowess!
