The Akre Update

June 2014

“But,” you ask, “what if people are rude?”

Love them. “If they are obnoxious?” Love them. “But what if they offend? Surely I must do something then?” Love them. “Wayward?” The answer is the same. Be kind. Love them. Why? In the scriptures Jude taught, “And of some have compassion, making a difference.” 6 Who can tell what far-reaching impact we can have if we are only kind? My brothers and sisters, the gospel of Jesus Christ transcends mortality. Our work here is but a shadow of greater and unimaginable things to come. The heavens opened to the Prophet Joseph Smith. He saw the living God and His Son, Jesus the Christ. In our day, a prophet, President Gordon B. Hinckley, walks the earth and provides direction for our time. As our Heavenly Father loves us, we also should love His children. May we be models of kindness. May we ever live up to the words of the Savior: “By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.” 7 Of these truths I bear witness in the sacred name of Jesus Christ, amen. - Joseph B. Wirthlin

News From Home Base

Mom: She has all sorts of fun stuff growing in the garden this year, including sweet potatoes and rhubarb. Implementing a summer program for the kids is keeping her busy, as well as all the normal day to day business. Dad also gave mom some money to take the youngest 3 to the fair, they had a lot of fun.

Dad: Getting close to finishing the car he is working on! I included one picture in this flyer but there are a bunch more on facebook. He also takes the family to the races every weekend.

Levi: Got ordained an Elder on the 22nd. He is getting so close to leaving on his mission. He also turned 18! It's been a big month for Levi. The girls wrote on his truck and gave him some Reese's cereal that said Happy Birthday. He has also been working with Dad a lot and playing with friends (hiking and boating and whatnot).

PennyLou: Started Voiced lessons, she says, "My teacher is Wacky". She has been working on Personal Progress things/reading scriptures and weeding for mom as per part of the summer program.

Yvonne: Yvonnes been working on her Personal Progress as well. She recently planned two weeks of meals for the family and has been helping mom cook. She has also been helping out Trygg work on his Duty to God.

Trygg: In addition to working on his Faith in God, he has been rollerblading with Yvonne. He also got some new Pokemon cards and mom let him have her coupon binder to put them in so that they were protected. He is also getting his Bear Scout Badge next pack meeting.

The McCartys

Eric: Eric got promoted this month. He did so well on the test that they asked him to teach a class on how to take it. In addition to that he is trying to teach Chad how to dance. It's amusing.

Shelby: Just keeping busy with the normal stuff. We are finally starting to make some good friendships here which is a big help to my sanity. Eric also took me to the Navy Ball at the beginning of the month. It was a lot of fun. We got to have a dinner on a ferry, which was a weird experience. Good but somewhat dizzying.

Chad: We got him a baby pool and a water table, and he plays with them everyday. If I don't take him out til after his nap, right after his nap he goes to the door or the window and starts knocking so that I will take him out. He still isn't saying much but has started shrugging his shoulders when he doesn't know what is going on, which is cute and funny. He has also started to grab our fingers when he wants something and leads us to whatever that is (i.e. the fridge, the change table, the crayons, the chalk). Furthering the fact that he doesn't like to talk... he just finds other ways to be heard.

The Hales

JeanCarlo & Cheslea: Recently got released from Ward Chorister to help Chelsea with the boys (smart move). This month he and Chelsea took Landon out on a date. They went to How to Train Your Dragon 2, got M&Ms at the theater and a hot wheels car afterwards. They are looking forward to going to the 4th of July parade and seeing the boys reactions to the parade and to the fireworks afterwards. They currently have Veronica, Carlos and Benji visiting and Carla gets there tonight, then they all leave together for Peru around the 15th. Chelsea has started eating gluten-free in hopes that it will help with the fatigue she has been feeling. Still resting a lot for now, but enjoying walks with her boys and their new double jogging stroller.

Landon: Loves his "vroom vrooms" and will not go to bed without one in each hand. If he doesn't have one, he will let his mama know. He has been learning A LOT of new words recently. A new word everyday.

Jake: Is an Angel. He eats well, sleeps well, smiles a lot, laughs out loud and likes to talk to whoever will give him attention. He is holding he head up really well and starting to try to roll over. He can go from his back to his side and back down to his back.

I think we all know that Amria has been sick. She is trying to make a big decision right now as to whether she should stay in Mexico and risk getting sicker or come home to get well and then possibly be reassigned a different mission. She told me (and others) that she was going to wait until her next doctors appt to know. She was also going to get another blessing, this time in English, so that she can really understand what is being said. Remember to keep her in your prayers, send all our love her way. <3 I know that God is with her. She is doing wonderful things.

Update: Amria is coming home July 10th to get better. She hope to be out in the field again in 1 - 3 months.
