Due to our short week and the 5th grade visits, ALL 8th graders will have lessons on MONDAY and ALL 7th graders will have lessons on THURSDAY. Please check Schoology for the altered schedule. Do NOT forget your instrument and music on those days.

6th graders will have regularly scheduled lessons this week.

Jazz Ensemble will rehearse on Monday at 3:05

Congrats to the multi-talented cast and crew members for a FABULOUS production this weekend.

Flyers earn a division I rating -- qualify for state!

Congratulations, musicians! Your hard work has paid off. Not only did both bands earn Division I ratings, but ALL three judges gave you scores that were in the Division I range. We will review the score sheets and recordings next week to see where we can improve even more. I think this is only the second time in 13 years that Symphonic Band has earned a Divsion I Rating. I am so proud of each one of you.

Due to our scores, both SB and WE have earned a trip to IGSMA STATE FESTIVAL!

All Symphonic Band and Wind Ensemble musicians and families need to mark their calendars for IGSMA STATE FESTIVAL! Location and exact date/time will be announced. It will be Saturday, April 23. We will know our schedule after spring break.

Summertime Music

It's time to plan your musical activities for the summer. There are so many opportunities in our area -- and beyond!

My favorite:

University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Middle School Band Camp

Last summer four Attea students attended and had so much fun, they're going back. If we get eight students from Attea, each student gets a discount.

Illinois Summer Youth Music (ISYM)

Midwest Young Artists Summer Programs

State Summer Symposium

UW-Madison Summer Music Clinic

Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp

Private Lessons - the next step

Many musicians find the single best way to improve on their instrument is to take private lessons with a professional. The Attea band website has been updated to include GBS teachers, as well as other area musicians.
The better you can perform on your instrument, the more fun you have while playing. It's a wonderful thing!!

Do you know Flyer Band Alumni?

If so, please ask them to email me ( to be featured in our interviews this year.

If your student is showing great interest in band and needs a musical challenge, please consider private lessons on bassoon or French horn. I can get you started, lend you an instrument and a beginning book, and recommend a private teacher. These instruments help complete the sound and balance of the ensemble.
Please contact me through email for further information.

Parents are invited to visit the band room.

Parents are encouraged to attend any rehearsal from 7:20-8:15 to see exactly how middle school band musicians learn and rehearse music. Even if your child is less than eager to practice at home for you, visitors will see how much our musicians love playing their instruments with a group. An audience makes it even more fun!
